it is latin america's response to hip hop, as originally it was a freestyle type form of music, where rappers would spit rhymes about society, being the modern day urban critics of current social situations, but now it's basically bull about hoes with big asses, drugs and gangs.

Latin America? Please, don't go that broad.

Yeah a lot of is very stupid. Even though i have basic knowledge of Spanish I can understand some of the nonesense. Also, my friends translate. For example I can't stand anything by Hector y Tito or Winsin y Yandel.

I think Don Omar is as good as it gets. Dile, Aunque Te Fuiste, Carta De Un Amigo, Luna, and some others are good lyrically. Also, doesn't Tego talk aobut real life issues?

I really like Daddy Yankee's hip-hop side. For example on El Cangri, his album of 2002, tracks 12, 15, and 16 are pure hip-hop. Being a hip-hop head i really feel his flow and the delivery is good. Beats are not bad either. I like number 16, i think, on Barrio fino. It's titled Corazones and its a pure hip-hop track. Good beat, good delivery, and he talks about different hearts and menality of various people based on ther situations.

Julio Voltio seems to go to the hip-hop sides as well. His 2004 release had some good hip-hop tracks. Again, I get lost in translation but the beats are above average and the delivery is pretty raw.

Eddie Dee's 12 Disipulos had some solid reggaeton as well as hip-hop tracks.

I dunno, its all an opinion of mine of course. It's not my culture or my music, i just like to bump to it.

P.S. My like of reggaeton was also influnced by an ex-girlfriend. Go figure. :)

LOL, you really know your stuff. Impressive

as much as Daddy Yankee has some hip hop stuff, he also has another side........and its that bull, no talented lyrical crap i dislike.

some of his hip hoppy stuff is nice and i can hear it on occasion.

and yes, tego does talk about real life issues- hence why he brought reggaeton back to its roots of streetlife and not bling bling BS

:)

other than that- if you like the music, chillin'

ill stick to where its at.......regular reggae ;)

well, even though i shouldn't, for generalization reasons, in which you are right, it's about the same as coining hip-hop to north america. sure, there is much better modern dance music both heard and created there, but none with such mass appeal. sadly, reggaeton has taken more prisoners than most any popular latin musical movement.

Inertia remember 2 or 3 years ago when we spoke about reggeaton ?
