I went to law school and i was doing research in women and children rights. it's a very big problem, especailly in Africa. So i went there for about 3 months but i spent more then 7 months because i couldn't leave. I couldn't just run away to beautiful France and forget about the reality. Even now, when everything seems miserable i remember that life could be much worse then just that. |

1. I'm a bartender, at TGIFridays.
2. I absolutely love it. The money is incredible, our bar sales kill every bar and restaurant in the area; i have so much flexibility with my schedule and only need to work 3-4 days to make more than enough money to pay my bills; i love my coworkers, my managers, and my regulars... i would say on any normal night, i usually know 85% of the people at the bar by name and what they drink, plus we usually get all the other restauarants' employees coming in to get loaded after work and we hook them up - they hook us up. Plus i think my job is fun is hell. I invent, i flair, i socialize, and i have total freedom.
but, alas... all good things must come to an end. in 2 weeks, its time for me to put my college degrees to some use, and pursue a career in software engineering. that's what i REALLY want to do. |

Wow very interesting. A very good friend of mine graduated from Columbia Law and is now practicing human rights law for a U.S. non-profit organization. She has been in the Congo for a couple of years now, the majority of her work pertaining to women's rights. |

Serge, get your grades and with that kind of experience, you'll be in... :) Man med school must suck... the stories I hear... seems very rewarding for everyone, though. Wish I had that kind of planned approach and motivation.
BTW my passion is international and humanitarian crises, especially when they involve issues of ethnicity... e.g. the war in Bosnia and Serbia in the 90's, the Chechen crisis, Darfur crisis, etc... In the long run I hope to live either in Canada or in Europe doing stuff I enjoy... I'll probably end up being a translator or interpretor... or a journalist of some sort so I can go to Africa and help there, which is really my goal. Another way that I regret not having the desire to go to med school is because something I always wanted to do is go to Africa and help there as a doctor... well maybe I can do it with my words. :) |
