Some kid got 'attacked' by a stray Rottweiler in Vaughan today, that they found and brought into their backyard to hold until animal control came to take him. Other kids were present too. Somehow, the dog bit this one kid in the ankle, and tore part of his ear. If u saw the dog on tv, you'd see the thing practically smiling and wagging its tail the whole time its in its cage. Who brings in a "stray" Rottweiler into their yard w/loads of kids around anyways??? Makes u wonder if the dog thought it was being playful & didn't know its force? I dunno- i wasnt there. I know some Rott's have attacked people, but I absolutely LOVE Rottweilers- they are the sweetest dogs, despite their intimidating size.
People dont realize that its not just a breed- Graham got bit by a lab, and my roommate's mutt just bit her friend yesterday, and both of these dogs were familiar w/the people they bit.
They'd better not ban these dogs too...!!! |

This is honestly getting ridiculous!
As trancechaos said, the dogs shouldn't be punished for people's stupidity... there's no need to go banning specific breeds! leave the dogs alone! :whip: :whip:
now I'll never have a pit bull :( |

U can still go get a pit bull... the Toronto humane society is FULL of them.
view them here
Pit bulls still frighten me tho- Too unpredictable- but they shouldn't be banned. The people who trained them to be vicious should be held responsible. People who use them as 'weapons' or for 'status' to incite fear from people are the biggest losers. My best friend does own a pit-staffordshire mix (I lived w/this dog for years), and she is a great dog. Good w/people, cats & kids- just not around other dogs. |

Years ago, back in the day before this new fangled internet thing - I had a job for about 5 months doing high-level security with Red Dobermans, German Rottweilers and German Shepherds.
I can attest to the fact that dogs act how they are trained. The dogs I worked with were highly trained, highly specialized (some were perimeter patrol dogs, other drug/bomb detection dogs, etc).
Each dog I worked with was trained to attack on command. They had the "kill" ability bred and trained within them – however since they WERE trained they didn’t turn on that ability unless instructed to do so.
IMO the problem with dogs is less to do with the breed and more to do with the carelessness of the owner (as it tends to be with most pets who cause problems).
The –real- solution to the "dog bite" problem is the implementation of harsher fines/consequences for dog owners. I suspect if owners were subject to unlimited personal and financial liability if their dog injured someone, owners would ensure that their dogs were kept in line. |

the problem here is ..wtf are you doing bringing a stray dog into your yard...
:conf:
you have NO IDEA how the dog will behave.
as for it being purely the owners fault. I dont agree at all.
dogs are like people and some are just ed up and out to harm. most serial killers came from normal well loved homes.
:eyespop:
and its not so much how the breed can act but the damage it can do.
a weeny dog nipping you isnt gonna cause much harm but a 100 lbs built like a brick house pit bull can kill in the same situation.
although I dont think banning them is the right answer. |

| I was attacked by a doberman when I was around 12. Wasn't badly hurt but it was a bad experience. To this day I do not blame the dog and in fact love dogs very much. It's always the owner's fault. How would you feel if you were tied up all day and mistreated? The gov might as well ban dogs altogether if they wanna stop these random attacks. In this case it was a stray, but how stupid are these people to just bring it into their yard like that. |

What annoys me the most is that the government doesn't seem to have any knowledge on the subject. They are just as bad as the ignorant people that think pitbulls and now rotties apparently are killer dogs.
And you're right, specific breeds of dogs are TRAINED to attack, but you can easily train your dog to be agressive without even knowing it. For example, most people don't know that playing tug-o-war with your dog can make them agressive. And I bet that in half these cases it's a matter of an abusive owner.
To sum it all up, PEOPLE ARE FVCKING STUPID AND THINKING ABOUT THIS MAKES ME ANGRY :whip: |

This is exactly why im against anything the government does to try and be our nanny. The government does not base it's laws on science. They base it on what they think will get them elected and/or increase revenues. This is why im pretty much against any law designed to take away citizens' choices and freedoms. It may seem like a good idea at the time but there are two problems. First most of these laws are very subjective such as the pitbull law. Second, where does it stop? Look at smoking. It all started with a designated non smoking area in a few restaurants and now look at whats happening. You will see the same with the pitbull law and all the other nanny babysitting laws out there.
I hear now that the no smoking crowd wants to ban smoking in cars and private homes. Im sure we will see further breed bans too. It's quite pathetic. |
