i'm an old school cyberkid essentially, and i've seen the scene adapt and change over the years. Nowadays, people don't look down on cyberkids here, they regard them as er, fun novelties lol. There aren't that many any more, but people have nothing but respect for them as many of them have been with the scene since the beginning. These are people you can just chat to and have a laugh, no matter who you are. You can't go up to some pretty boy/girl and just do that, because of the reasons that people have mentioned before.
But then again, i suppose that is why Europe's club scene is/has flourished and thats why the EDM scene in the USA (or NY as the case seems to be right now) isn't really going anywhere |

I get your point...but my point is that so are so many other people in clubs....maybe even you.

Well prejudice towards people will never help a scene grow...so you dont help that much.
Anyway...
EDM will never be big in America, because Americans tend to like what is forced fed them through the airwaves...if they hear something on the radio a million times they like it. There will be the exception of tunes that will reach the masses (Beautiful Things, Satisfaction, Sandstorm, Kernkraft etc) but they are few and far between.
For example....i used to play Tiesto (circa 99) all the time in my car driving to clubs...and most, if not all, of the people that i played it to said Tiesto sucked..he played cheese blah blah blah...NOW today with Tiesto's popularity and tunes being hammered on American radio these same critics swear they loved Tiesto when i did.
I don't think EDM not getting big in America has really anything to do with with anything but the fact that it is, for the most part, vocal less...Americans like nice vocals that they can sing in the shower, in front of the mirror or driving in their car....thats why 90% of the EDM tunes that the masses do like have vocals...and why DJ Sammy, Amber, Lasgo and the such are considered gods of the EDM scene to Americans (17-28years old). |

| Well I think i can speak on this topic because I live in Louisiana where the EDM scene on a whole is very underground and the trance scene is non existent. The reason EDM is underground in America is.....dum duh duh dum...thats where it belongs. Now dont jump down my throats on this one because I have been struggling with this answer for many years now. EDM needs to stay underground because if it starts to get big ppl will have to "cheesify" it to make more money off of it (see Sandstorm, Ian Van Dahl, Lasgo's success in US a few yrs back). The last thing we need in the US is for everyone to associate "Castles in the Sky" with trance again. The reason why more ppl in the US dont listen to EDM is simple also....It takes effort. I mean its not easy to find out about good quality trance or house music and most people dont care about music enough to go looking for it. They'd rather just be spoon fed this crap that plays on the radio 24/7. I think most people also dont appreciate music enough to listen to hours of non-stop house, breaks, or trance music with very little words involved and be moved by it. Most people need words in a song to be told how to feel, whereas most EDM tracks are solid enough to stand on the music alone and dont need words to deliver a message. But thats just my opinion. |

When you go to a club these days in the States you see those damn kandii girls whom I detest. You know, those ones who snorted their prescribed ritalin, jump around shouting "plur!" and chew on their glowsticks. They also tend to look like rejected extras from the movie Party Monster.

I think there is a similar problem in the UK these days. Alot of the younger generation are spoonfed bands like Westlife, Nsync and whatever else (god don't banish me for saying those words!!!). They dominate radio, charts, well known compilations and TV shows. And that drowns out any other forms of music.
If i want to go to see any decent dj, I have to travel atleast 2 hours to get to a trance based club. Where as, if i wanted to hear the latest top 40 hits, i have to walk literally 5 mins down the road to my nearest nightclub.
About the kandi kids though... well that stemed from the hardcore and goa uprising in the early 90's, its always been a part of club culture and has evolved. Back then it was usually to do with drugs, bright colours and so on make the trip a bit wilder (note: never done a pill in my life!). These days is just a "trend" (for lack of better words).
Im guessing its the same situation in the USA as it is over here, except that the trance scene has never really had a chance to flourish over there, where as it has over here. |

i'd just like to point out that all of you are giving krysta crap for judging people based on appearances when you are all doing the exact thing to her. i can't believe how many times i've heard..."i know your type" or "people like you" in this thread, while then turning and accusing her of judging others.
now, i'm not saying that you guys are wrong in your assumptions...but really none of us really know her and she hasn't said anything about her background with EDM, yet everyone is assuming that because she is a beautiful girl that she doesn't know what she is talking about and is new to the scene herself.
what if one of the old skool TA's had started this topic with the same opinons? would you all be so quick to dismiss the topic and attack the individual? probably not.
i'll just use tiesto14 as an example since he's been very active in this thread and i like him hehehe :p.
you came in here with prior experiences that are biasing your opinions. you said that your ex girlfriend was just like krysta and therefore you knew how she was and made up your mind imediately and then ignored the true point of this thread... |
