TOTA Election

So it looks like we are about to have another election in the wake of the theft in the sponsorship scandal. Who would you vote for?

I'd still go Liberal. Really, does it matter. Bottom line is, every party really has the same guidelines and rules that they have to follow once in power, and every single one is going to do stupid, unbecomming , it's just that we won't find out about all of them.

No one is perfect. But the scale of Liberal corruption is unprecidented. They have truely made us a third world like country and I won't tolerate it. Id rethink my vote. This is not a partisian thing. Im advocating that people vote anything but Liberal. There are 3 other parties to choose from. NDP, Conservatives and Green. A vote for Liberal will do nothing but reward them for criminal activity.

You ask does it really matter? The answer is Yes. Re-elect the Liberals and you will show them that they can get away with anything they wish to do including criminal activity.

Jayx, I really hope that you aren't looking for an indication of what general election results will be based on this poll. The numbers via this site will be so skewed it's frightening. Nearly all of us here are 20 somethings, urban, educated, socailly oriented. It is almost a given that the centre and left will get the majority of the votes.

I can see your point. But on a personal note, it's realy difficult to decide. Neither of the parties in particular have any issues on their agenda that will directly impact me in any way that I can see. I can agree with the idea that revoting for the Libs would allude to supporting what they have done so far, which is far from the truth. But the lack of a suitable alternative does leave a void.

I agree with this point.

As dissapointed and angry I am over the scandal, I vote Liberal simply becuase I do not agree with Conservative ideaology. Since there is no PC party to vote for anymore, my only course of action is to still vote Liberal.

I'm with the guys on this one, I don't fully agree with what happened
with the sponsorship scandal but every government now and than will have their controversy and besides I'd rather have Paul Martin as our
PM than see Stephen Harper run the country.

Then vote NDP or Green. How anyone can condone criminal behaviour is beyond me.

Just giving up and voting for corruption because you think it would happen anyways is exactly how a country becomes third world. Crooked politicians and dictators cant survive without apathetic and/or ignorant citizens.

I think you're oversimplifying a bit. For me personally, if I were to vote again, it would not be as an act of support for past actions. The fact that the Libaral policy does tend to have more impact on people in my class, whereas the other parites do not, that's the main reason for the vote. If there were viable alternative, then I wouldn't go Liberal. But then again, maybe abstaining from the vote is that alternative..

I'm not over-simplifying. A spade is a spade. Embezzling funds through friends to finance an election is not only criminal but curtails the very basis of our country which is supposed to be a democracy.

I dont care what the party stands for they stole our money and used it to buy the election. That trumps all else in my opinion. And yes the best option if you dont support any other party is to appear at the poll and decline your ballot (it will still go on record as a vote but you will not have voted for anyone). Therefore you do your part for democracy and also send the message that you dont like any of the parties. This is far better than voting Liberal "just because".

PS: dont spoil your ballot, that just sends the message that you are retard that doesnt know how to X a ballot. Tell the DRO at the poll that you "decline" the ballot and it will be recorded as "declined". It's a pretty powerful political statement because you made the effort to go to the poll to not vote for anyone out of disgust. All the candidates in that riding get all the results so they will see your declined vote.

Hmm, I didn't know that I could do that. Good alternative. I can completely understand where you are comming from, and yes, voting for the same party WOULD be interpreted as an act of support. I do like this "decline" option.

Jayx I think what you're seeing here is the general distrust toward the Conservatives in this Province, particullarly amongst this demographic far outweighs the current scandal. I'm not saying that there is reason to fear the Conservatives, nor am I saying that this is true of all Ontario voters. Seriously, you have to recognize that within the group of persons that post on this site and who are part of the EDM community in general rightward leaning views are the minority. Bareing that in mind you have to expect that for the most part people here will support the centre or left despite any one off scandals which are widely believed to be present in all governments regardless of political orientation.

Additionally, you cannot really tell me or anyone else that you honestly believe that a Conservative government would be free of scandal. There is patranage present in all political systems and within all parties. Moreover, you're talking about a party that started as a grassroots party and has had only limited success for 15 years. They owe their grassroots members and those members will be certain that they get what they feel they deserve, otherwise they'll withdraw their support and the party will faulter... the party leadership knows this, you should too.
