Also I've never heard of any games that you could play using an emulator ("nintendo, snes, sega genesis, game boy advance" as you said) that actually takes advantage of surround sound. As for the point of watching DVDs, standalone DVD players are incredibly inexpensive. ;)

Nice way to belittle your entire argument with an elitism comment there...

Because connecting my computer to my TV means that I have to fish wire through walls which would end up being expensive if I wanted a half decent cable. So on a 5 speaker surrouns sound system you don't get any sound when playing emulators? News to me! My point was that it's all going to sound better than the sound system on a computer, not that it uses the latest technology available .

How does that comment belittle my argument exactly? So me stating my opinion BACKED UP WITH FACTS means that I belittle my own argument by being honest? Right. Don't even bother replying to me :haha:

PS2 just has it's games. Now if you're a person who doesn't care about having any features at all then enjoy the piece of .

:stongue: Jeez, very opinionated aren't ya! Plenty of points to refute, so here we go...

Fair enough, although you could just move your PC closer... :D

Did you read what I said?

"takes advantage of surround sound"

Obviously it's going to play its mono sound through the speakers.

Backed up with facts? I'm failing to see these "facts" in the sentence "I wouldn't want a lame system like PS2 but that's just me". Weird.

And why are you telling me not to reply? Not enjoying our little dispute? :D

Son, no need to get yourself all worked up over this. I bought a games console because I wanted to play games; just as I bought a kettle because I wanted to boil water. The PS2 has the best collection of games, so it was an obvious choice. Simple as... ;)

Let's not forget that it's the first console that did really well who also enabled backwards-compatability opening up an entire library to the already huge one that the PS2 games occupy. :D
Blue.
Your kettle boils water, mine can make an entire meal.

Me backing something up with facts doesn't mean every fact has to be in a single sentence or even a single post. I backed it up by proving that XBOX > PS2 for everything except games.

I said don't bother replying because your best argument is that you buy a console for gaming. Well good for you, not everyone feels that way and my argument is that I'd rather pay the extra few bucks that allows me to have a fairly functional and easier to use PC that is portable and I can use on a TV.

It's basicaly the only thing that you can say to defend the PS2, either "I buy consoles for games" or "PS2 has better games" it's the only thing people ever come up with. Well if you enjoyed any older games then XBOX is still better than PS2 since it plays close to every emulator out there.

I for one would rather by an XBOX for about the same price as a PS2 instead of buying a PS2 + DVD player (compatible with all forms of movies) + super nintendo, etc. But then again some people would rather just spend their cash on each individual "kettle" as opposed to one that does everything. Smart.

Man does anyone here know anything about software and programming?!?!
I can't believe nobody mentionned that the xbox and the xbox360 are written in very high level programming (directx) and this very high level of programming, though easier to write, takes up much more cpu power. And i aint talking just a little bit...I mean a truck load of power! The language used by sony for the ps2 is very low-level from what i heard (somehwere between C++ and assembly). Now though low level language is much harder to write and program with, it gives ENORMOUS GAINS in Power.

And that is why the ps2 with a processor running just under 300Mhz is keeping up with a 700mhz monster. Its all in the programming. Thats why you hear microsoft always showing off its computing power and ease of programming, because thats all they got. They never mention that a significant portion of the computing power is wasted in making the code understandable by the machine...its like translating from english to french, then french to english. Too many languages to go through!

So all you idiots yelling out numbers and statistics should calm down a bit cauz you look exactly like the kids who spit out whatever they read in car magazines.

You can think of it this way, the amarican consoles are like american cars...big, ugly, powerful, wastefull and very non efficient. Japanese consoles are like japanese cars, small, light, less powerfull, much more efficient and reliable. :)

If sony stays with its hard to program but much more efficient programming language, it will win the war once again. But the cell architecture is very complicated and they might be forced to more to a higher level of programming language.

One more thing, the cell processors are known to be able to withstand 3.2Ghz last time a heard without any significant cooling other than a little fan. Thats already faster than microsofts processors. Not only that, the sony processors are said to be much more efficient with each clock cycle than the typical intel processor which micorosft will be using.

There is no doubt that the ps3 will be more powerfull than the xbox360.

No specs have been finalized. It's still all up for grabs, really.

How is the PS2 keeping up with the Xbox? Your example would be much better if you compared the Gamecube to XBox. The PS2 can barely keep up.

I'm pretty sure MS isn't using Intel this time around.......or did something change?

And yes, there is absolutely NO doubt that the PS3 will be the most powerful of the 3 consoles. I dont' even understand how someone would argue that a console that comes our 1 year prior to another could be more powerful. Was the Dreamcast more powerful than PS2? NO. Is PS2 more powerful than Gamecube or Xbox? NO.

1 year is A LOT of time when it comes to technology. MS is giving both Sony and Nintendo enough time to create a more powerful machine for the same cost. That being said, Xbox 360 will still be a very very very powerful machine.

Also, I wanna clear something up:

quote:
Yes, Xbox 360 will have three processors, each running at a claimed 3GHz. Yes, we're talking 9GHz of total system juice.

-xbox360.ign.com

Unfortunately, multi-cpu's don't work like that. You don't just add up their seperate speeds to get the total output clockspeed. The total will be closer to 6GHZ.

Hmm, well I'm not gonna get into the debate over which system is more powerful, BUT, historically speaking, even though the Xbox is a graphics powerhouse compared to PS2, even if the exact same thing happens in the new generation, the games will be the determining factor, and all Microsoft has been able to do with the Xbos is blow a lot of hot air, as the VAST majority of the games have just been crap. We'll see how they do. Personally, I am putting my vote for Sony, but I would be happy if Microsoft upped the ante. I'm kind of tired of Sony anyways. Too much money charged for that f****** logo.

Good thing they've got a TON of third party support this time around, eh?

zokissima
That's what I'm hoping will give them the edge they need. I've heard of some pretty big names rallying behind Microsoft with this console, so we'll see how it goes. Sony needs to be kicked off their high horse just for a little while.

I just prefer the xbox, we get exclusives that no other systems can handle, ninja gaiden, riddick, doom3, halflife2, etc.
Not to mention when you play the same game on both xbox and ps2, the ps2 versions always take longer to load sometimes they even have additional load screens to wait through. Basically I prefer xbox over ps2, I just think its an all around better system and thats before you mod it... then it gets serious! In the end I will buy an xbox 360. I feel MS is going to come out of these console wars at least even with sony if not the market leader. One main reason would be XNA. However no one will know until e3, then we get the actual specs and see the systems (hopefully) running games. :)
