Good thread,
mine was this way:
I got some commercial dance music cds with a friend to give a listen, so I was caught listening to a sad and melancholic song, diff. from the others in the cd, so I read in the cover:
Paul van Dyk - Tell me why.

I think it was in 2001...

:tongue2

back in 2000 my brother got a rap cd from his friend and the last few tracks were trance. It was the terminator 2 theme. Final Fantasy - I close my eyes (still gives me shivers)

I was on the computer that all of the technical team that my high school used for fun. I was looking through all of their music folders that were laid out by artists and then had their songs in their respective folders. There was this one folder labeled "DJ Micro". Opened it up and the only track there was Transa - Supernova. My life was never the same again when I double-clicked that icon.....:p This was back in 2000.

My friend from Spain gave me an mp3 of Oakie's Home @ Space Essential Mix back in '99. That started it all...

Probably York - Reachers of Civilisation... The first track of Tiësto's "In Search of Sunrise" album.

January 1998. I was in my bedroom at home and flicking through a magazine (can ever remember the magazine!) and happened to turn on my radio by accident. It was the final 30min mix on Judge Jules Friday night show and after listening in amazement for about 15secs I ran around the house like an trying to find a cassette to record it onto. Later found out (about 6yrs later!) that the tune was Techno Beats by Tiesto.

I used to religiously tape every single one of those Friday night 30min mixes (was only 14 so couldn't go to clubs and was at boarding school anyway!) and I had about 60 tapes with all of them on which I started to transfer over onto Minidisc a couple of years later.

First trance compilation set I got into was Euphoria. Heard CD2 of Level 3 coming back from Paris on a coach at about 7am and was blown away!

what are we classifying as trance? because i mean...i could say something like Orbital or CJ Bolland or something like that...and when i first heard it i liked it...i probably just considered it "Electronic"...

I used to listen to happy hardcore when i was really young (hangs head in shame :o) and my mum, not really knowing what hardcore was, used to buy me all manner of random style cds for xmas/birthdays (including warehouse raves 6 - "If ya names not danny, ya not coming in" lol). A few years later my stlye was changing but i didnt really have a direction, until one xmas my mum bought me 'Ibiza 99 - The year of Trance'. A trance addict is born - **cue music from the holy grail** me, talk bout life changing experiences! Still one of my fav CDs, I JUST WISH I WAS BORN A FEW YEARS EARLIER HEARING 99 TUNES IN A CLUB FOR THE 1ST TIME :(

I was playing poker with some pals one day, and one had headphones on. He had just bought Sasha - XPander EP, and gave me a listen and I was pretty intrigued. Turned out, the 3 guys I was playing with were all into various forms of House and/or Trance, and that night another friend gave me a copy of Digweed's MMII to listen to. I liked it so the next night he gave me Danny Howells' Nocturnal Frequencies III, and I was hooked.

Sasha's San Francisco GU was my first "trance" album though.

heard Robert Miles - Children, like it, saw it on a dance compilation, In the Mix 96 i think. A few of the tracks on there i saw on Trance Nation 1, bought that and was hooked.

By about 99/oo was well and truely into it, started buying Mixmag/Ministry and discovered there was a night called Slinky in my home town.

My first experience was going there sometime around 17, walking in the main room, ferry corsten on the decks, lasers going. Next up was a then largely unknown dutch dj called Tiesto who blew the place apart.

Been a tranceaddict ever since
