Much like I said in my intial statement those who are of a particular race get to use ethnic slurs towards themselves. As I am a mixed (welsh/Ojibway), i get to call myself and other white people, honkeys.

because you were using it in a derogatory fashion in a statement loaded with hatred.
There is no denying that the way things work now are very lopsided. I dont buy into this "taking back the word" BS because now you get little white kids repeating the word because they hear rappers sing it in songs. Yet those white kids are racist now too?

Get off it dude. We all know that the there is alot of racism in the Tory party. Look at the tories in Ontario and thier treatment of natives here. Some of the comments that came from the ontario tories reek of racism. Ie " the department of indian affairs can look after the aboriginals. We manage the real ontarioans" I think that was jim flaherty who said that one. or one of Harris's cronies suggesting that they treat native protestors like bikers. |

Hatred schmatred. It was a joke.
Also taking the word back has worked in many respects. When white thug kids use it now it has a very different meaning from what it did intially. But...i still think they should refrain from using it as it is quite inappropiate to use it. But people are free to be idiots so whatever.

hip hop lyrics, and kids repeating them, is hardly what people mean when they speak of "taking back the word" or removing the power these words have :rolleyes:
kids repeating the word out of ignorance or imitation is not the same as consciously removing the power of a word when using it amongst friends, for example.
as I've said before...it's all about the intent behind the words that matters. |

you can say bitch to offend women just as the word or dick can be used to describe men. Women actually take pride in being bitches in today's society which i find disheartening. And in the process of equality, i often hear men refferred to as "whores" as well. |
