^^^Darren, where did YOU grow up?
I never even knew what pot was until highschool. I thought drinking a glass of a cooler was bad in grade 8.
I heard of a couple of people having sex in grade 6. But nothing major.
I guess I had it good.
It is for sure different than what you are describing. Highschool on the other hand was pretty bad in terms of drugs and sex. But we are talking about 11 year olds here.
It must be the big city vs small city.
Lesson to everyone, have kids in the booneys! |

I grew up in a suburb of Detroit...about 45 minutes from the city...Waterford Michigan...Things like that are like life...there are many things that you know is going on...EVERYTHING is going on at all times, it is just a matter of if you choose to seek things out or not.
I grew up in a nice area...not inner city or the hood...I knew a TON of prep-school folks that were way worse than me...LOL
Doesn't matter where you are, the same stuff goes on everywhere...it is only the values that are taught that makes the difference. |

Man, I've bent many a broomstick in my day, seemed like each week there was always a new broomstick in the closet waiting to get "christened." I'm no fan of corporal punishment but once in awhile you need to put your kids in line cuz once you lose their respect it's over. i remember as a kid, if I was ever bad my mom would do this lip thing and give me cut eye and I knew I was in for it, no question about it.
This thread reminds me of a comedian I watched on my comp, Russell Peters. Man that guy was funny, the funniest I remember was at the end:
(starts explaining about how the next time he was gonna get hit he threatened to call Social Services, and his dad called his bluff)
Peter: "Stop, do it and I'll call Social Services on you"
Dad: "You'll do what?, well here you go, here's the phone tough guy"
Peter: "Wh-what?"
Dad: "I said, here's the phone, call them if you like but I know
that it takes 15 mins for them to get here, and in that
time...
Somebody's gonna get hurt real bad" |

| I have a two year old daughter, and I am so scared for her to grow up! My brother who is only 3 years younger (he's 18) than me tells me stuff about the people that he goes to highschool with and what they do, and I am honestly blown away at some of the things that he tells me. So things have persay "gotten worse" in just a matter of three years. I mean with drugs, sexaul matters. I don't even want to think about what high school, or ever public school will be like for my daughter. Ya kids that are homeschooled might be a little weird, but at least they're not out getting AIDS or OD'ing somewhere.(That might be a bit extreme but still..) It seriously scares the crap outta me. I mean I wasn't an angel, but I had respect and I didn't even know what most drugs were until I was at least 16. Now, my bother tells me about 15 year olds that are doing coke! :nervous: :nervous: |

| i do believe that if you shelter your kids to the extreme they will just make up for it in their 20s. Having said that it is way too extreme on the other end of the spectrum these days IMO. |

This just in:
6 boys under the age of 14 have gang raped a girl of under age 14.
The girl went to her friend's house to copy some music and the 6 kids were waiting for her.
