that is true, but with the popularity of internet, audio formats like mp3, and p2p networks (starting with the original napster) you can't say that the problem isn't a whole lot bigger today. |

| at the end of the day this debate will just keep going around in circles, dj's cant survive without producers and vice versa. |

Secondly not everyone can grab a copy of Reason/Cubase/FLStudio and write good music... It takes years of practice to create sounds from scratch and make them EXACTLY the way you want them ... It takes years of practice to be able to write music that actually has substance, that actually goes somewhere...
A DJ's job is to control a crowds state of mind using other peoples music... There is no comparison. Its like going to an Art Exhibition...who do you think people really give a about? The Artists or the dude who puts on the exhibition? When you go see a movie do people give two s about the guy who put the reel of film in the movie projector... or the director of the movie?
Sure not everyone can put on an art exhibition... or even put reel of film in a projector for that matter... I know what I would prefer to do. |
please more people listen to this guy.
<3
Personally, I prefer to see local bands over international DJs now. Well not entirely true, but not far from it. |

lol couldnt agree more...
I didn't say that Julez ya tart, we were discussing Begics idea of how there are too many DJ's, I merely stated that to stick out amongst the DJ population the next step would be to produce...
Fair enough producers don't make good DJ's, but I'm sure alot of you would agree that when a producer drops his own track, it means that much more.
eg. M.i.k.e dropping Universal Nation at TT a couple of years back...
or Tiesto dropping Lethal Industry a at r00m a while ago |

yeah i know man. Im not silly, i understand that production (if its good ebough) will catapult you to the strastophere (if thats what ur after), im just saying that after a few years experience going out and listening to the international dj's, it gets on my nerves when someone is paid 10 grand and cannot play.
You can always hear the experienced guys...like look at tiesto, yeah im not his greatest fan anymore, but he is a great crowd pleaser DJ:- yeah his remixes and tracks might have taken him to the next level, but his DJing (all 15 odd years of exp.) again takes him up a level above the next level.....or something. |

Lucien produces under many aliases, hes made tons of stuff most commonly under Funk Function and Dutch Liquid
Danny Howells has a few productions and remixes under his belt, he goes by Science Dept. and Squelch
The only highly regarded DJ that I know of that doesnt produce is Guy Ornadel |

Pete Tong only recently had his first production released
...but yeah things were diferent back in the day. |
