But I wish people wouldnt talk like trance is the holy music from the heavens. and for s sakes, AT LEAST decrown Armin, Tiesto (the usuals, etc) from the position of God. There ISN'T a god at all (in terms of spiritual entity) and I'll be well ing damned if its going to be a geeky little dutch kid. :happy2:

I was really into trace partially because all the glamour that was behind it. Those pictures of massive parties in superclubs, the stuff that dj's would say on the radio, the trance mixes with the roaring crowds, that human traffic movie
it all just had me convinced that the trance scene was this beautiful place separated from reality where everyone was cool and fun to be around.
But over time I just became aware that all that glamour I was attracted to was fake. The scene was full of s, the pictures made the parties look better than they really were, most of the behavior that I originally thought came from the beautiful souls of trance fans was actually drug induced.
It all has me convinced that most of the beauty that is in trance is just a big lie, a fake glamour no better than airbrushed supermodels or breast implants or your average bling-bling rap song. the stuff armin is doing kinda reinforces that belief for me, every song feels the same, with the same tired sounds used in the same way as before. The music doesnt feel like anything meaningful, almost as if it has turned into a commodity.
I dont think trance can really ever die, but I dont think armin is a good representative of it in his current form. If one would simply listen to a selection of armins stuff from different times, they would realize how it is all so boringly similar. I get this music download thing called rhapsody and I looked up armin on it the other day, I found a random selection of tracks from his various cd's, and every damn one of them followed the same formula. It is like one of those hanna barbera cartoons with attractive characters that we used to wake up early in the morning to see, but when they come on the tv now we realize are all the same. Really, if you exclude scooby doo and jonny quest, you still have flinstones, yogi bear, jetsons, etc. and they are all the same, they recycle the same plots, same sound effects, same voices, the only things that are remotely unique are the characters. Armin's trance is like a bland hanna barbera cartoon to me, but I can understand how someone who hasn't heard alot of trance(or seen very many hanna barbera cartoons) could enjoy them.
I guess it isn't realistic to expect musicians to do new things frequently enough to keep someone who listens to alot of their music continuosly entertained, especially when they can replace every repeat customer that leaves with 2 new ones. |

Listen to the biggest tunes from the early 1990's and compare them to the biggest tunes from the early 2000's.
Case in point: Jam & Spoon - Stella (1992 or 1993) vs. Motorcycle - As the Rush Comes (2003).
