Hey everyone.
It sounds like lots of you had a great time at Danny T and the various Toronto parties this weekend.
Up in montreal there was a party called Swirl that had a couple headliners there.
I checked it out with a friend and I have to say that they just realize how to do things right there.
No lines to get in. No stupid bull at the doors or with the security. No fights.
They even had a special sinks set up outside the bathrooms so you could fill up your water bottles without going in.
There was a full fledged team of masseuses and smootie bars open all night.
It was nice to be in a place for a change that didn't cram so many people in that you couldn't move anywhere.
We got there around 11 and saw part of Marco G, followed by Chris Lawrence's set.
He was hard as hell and played some fun stuff but got repetitive by the end.
Chris Leibing came on and really impressed me with his stage energy. He put on a really fun show!
Armin played afterwards and I have to say for the 1000th time that he never dissapoints. His first two hours were highly experimental, I didn't recognize the majority of the tracks at all, but they were non the less awesome, followed by a blistering 2 hour finale of many of the Armin favourites including 'till ya drop which is an ass kicker if i've ever heard one.
I felt a little ashamed, but lay most of the blame at Armin's doorstep for kicking my ass so hard that I could not "giver" in full effect during Blank and Jones set which was full of wicked tracks and even included Adagio for Strigs twice within 20 minutes.
Don't get me wrong, they still tore it up, i unfortunately could hardly move my legs any longer at 9 in the morning.
Nice to see a "few" friendly faces, and meet some new TA's!

Chris Liebing rocked the muthuin hard jam. I loved the CD looping, or beat juggling, whatever the hell it was.
Having Armin come on after seemed a little anti-climactic and it took a little getting used to the tempo change, but Armin played a great set nonetheless.
As great as Swirl was, a part of me can't help but think that Stereo the night before with Frankie Knuckles was better. |

Dude, was that in Montreal, or HEAVEN?!?! LOL!!! Sounds like a wicked-ass time!!! I was really regretting not making it out to AVB when it's so easy to drop in Montreal anytime...but I wasn't disappointed! ;)
And maybe it was because of the venue being the Olympic Stadium that it wasn't as bad as clubs are? I'm interested in seeing whether Aria is at all like what you described, but I think it's an unfair comparison because of the sheer diff in size! Maybe if we had that AVB-Tiesto affair (that Raiban is dreaming about) in Skydome (ahem, NOT Rogers p.o.s.) it could be cooler here too? |

Montreal raves in general seem to be more organized and with an abundance of employees ie security, paid duty officers, coat check, etc. etc. When I went to Celebration 2005 at the Pepsi Forum, they had the hugest coat check area i've ever seen, staffed by at least 15 people. No word of a lie, the coatcheck area alone was around 10,000 square feet. Even at Stereo for Frankie Knuckles the night before Swirl, no line up. I remember going to see Mark Farina back in the summer of 2003, and I only had to wait in line for 5 minutes.
I've heard from someone that the raves are backed by bikers....If that's the case, then I can see how they could afford to calculate at a loss. |
