Alright some of you know what my car was hit about a month ago and I have been waiting to hear back from the ins company. So I got a call from they yesterday and they told me my car was a total loss and they are cutting me a check for $3,350. I was like "thats bull !!!" I looked my car up on kelley blue book and the retail value is $6,900. I told this to the ins rep and she said you can't count on the online sites because they don't update that site daily. I think shes talking out of her ass. So I called the body shop where my car is and even they told me they are full of . Has anybody gone through this before? What do you do in a situation like this? If anybody has a REAL kelley blue book can you please look up the vlaue of my car. It's a 97 subaru legacy 4 door gt with 167,000 miles on it and it's in next to perfect condition.

i'm not sure if any of us have a hard copy on us. maybe the local library would?
Groundhog Boy
The hard copy surely won't be updated daily. The online prices should be the most accurate. Also, is this woman claiming that the value of your car was cut in half since the last time the website was updated, because that's the most ridiculous depriciation value I've heard of.

When i had my Civic (in my sig) it got stolen.

I had State Farm Insurance and the book value on the car, at the time was $6,700. But i had so much crap on my car (custom work) that they paid me $12,900!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and they gave me a Dodge Intrepid rental car for 2 months FOR FREE...not some little dinky car...a big Intrepid.

I swear by State Farm after that...those guys pay out and take care of their clients...its worth paying the extra cash for them.

I spoke to Progressive and they said they do a two-book evaluation and take the average of the car. If they are totaling your car, the damage obviously isn't a factor so we need to see documentation on how they calculated your car's worth.

They should have a written evaluation or something that they can fax you..hopefully.

s. argh! :(

Retail Value Search Local Listings for This Car $6,985
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the vehicle has been fully reconditioned and has a clean title history . This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the vehicle's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions.

That's not the retail value of my car though. I was told they have to pay me what it would cost to purchase my car at a dealer.

Are you going through theyre insurance or yours. You dont have to accept the amount they gave you, you can call your insurance company to call them and argue that.

This happened to me once when I was rear ended and they called it a total and I actually got back more money than I paid for the car.
