Who the hell wants to stand around swaying (after all you can't dance) to something slow and dull? You go to a night out to enjoy yourself, not lapse into a coma due to extreme boredom.

Anybody saying things like 'how beautiful trance can really be' cannot be taken seriously can they? Yes, let's all hold hands and rejoice in the lord and listen to Lange's 'Frozen Beach' all night. God I need to be sick in a bucket......

hahahahahahah!

I just quoted the funny bits for ya d4rk4n4l ;)

maybe you can't do the super hat twirl but music doesn't have to be 150 bpms to dance to. if you call twirling your hat on your head dancing :)

Wow, It's amazing how many opinions can fit into 8 pages.
Also amazing, is how the urge to textually slap a genre to the ground, curse all junkies, and state one's own opinion as law, can diminish in the same time.
I'm definetely not goin to throw around judgements here, especially as, only a year ago I'd have pigeon holed all dance into my "junkie music" folder. And even more so after having my eye's opened countless times since, most stand outishly - Cristopher Lawernce in Jan. (dam, can he come back anytime).
Guess what im tryin to say, is, not everyone's gonna like everythin, so don't try and make em. Instead, open the offer to them to experience the best of it, and let them decide. (Long winded i know, apologies)

/2 cents.

Never, ever use the DJ mag top 100 to support an arguement on Dance music. How many people here actually think ATB should be in the top 10? And populatiry contest it may be, but not even a good one at that. When 3000 people from montreal can vote in a block for one of their locals to make the list, how can it truely be a reflection of the millions listening to the music?.....
+1. Strong scenes come from strong locals. Strong locals encourage good parites and good productions

ummm...? contradiction?

Uh huh

You go be sick in a bucket dear, whilst come our once yearly Godskitchen, I’ll hold hands and rejoice in the lord (if I can’t dance, I may as well follow your suggestion and embrace the spirituality of electronic music) whilst listening to the beautiful music of the best lineup I think Future Entertainment have presented Melbourne with. And then I shall get back to you on G&D set.

Meanwhile, with the pounding headache I without fail suffer from upon being subjected to unexpectedly hard trance though decent speakers, I would indeed need copious amounts of painkillers, at the very least, to enjoy my evening. Don’t be insulted, it’s simply a fact.

And if I want to have a decent dance, I’ll find myself something with much more musicality and variety than a pounding 4/4, 160bpm mess of ‘dance music’. Seriously, I’d find it as much fun as dancing to the lawnmower.

And our differences in taste would be why- aside from the fact you appear to be from the UK- we would never intentionally find ourselves at, and enjoying, the same night :)

id stick to drinking tea, murdering princesses and getting thrashed at sport if i were you. producing something with a ridiculously fast tempo, does not, in and of itself, make it music.

thats not very stereotypical of you is it?? Thats like saying everyone who likes hard trance wears phat-pants, drinks G like it's water, double drops and owns 50 million billion kandy bracelets.

*grabs Gerry's and pkcRAISTLIN hands and dances around the room to "need to feel loved"* :)

It does confuse me a bit tho, hard dance and hard trance is obviously huge in Melbourne, yet the big events are saved for trance djs... Lets hope the Pharmacy crew start securing bigger venues

I agree with you, Rez. We do have it lucky when it comes to the bigger events, but i think thats just due to fact the uplifitng/melodic/prog sound being generally more popular world wide.

What you have to remember, is that in Melbourne, the hard scene is very loyal/active but very confined. Because EVERYONE that is into it is, out to it. The general masses who have no idea who the the DJ's are, find prog or trance alot easier to get into than hard stlye/hard trance/hard house, even if they dont even know thats what they are listening to.

The other thing you have to keep in mind is that those masses make up the vast majority that attends these bigger events, Future knows this which is why you will always find trance or prog headliner in the main room.

:)
