I've dabbled in a few, but the one I stuck at longest (and the one which I still practice when I can) is Tang Soo Do. To be honest though, it doesn't matter what style you do, as long as you've got a good teacher you'll learn well and become good at it.

:)

good girl.

I am actually a pro mixed martial arts fighter, I have trained BJJ, Muay Thai, and sambo, wrestled for pretty much my whole life. If you are really interested in self defense, BJJ or Judo would probably be good choices, and I know there are plenty of BJJ schools in england now, Muay Thai is very, physical and rough on your body. but also very effective. good luck with whatever decision you make. train hard play hard

by the way is that jayce pennington?

Useful for self-defense? Yes. But running and being aware of your surroundings > a martial art if that's what you want to learn a MA for.

I enjoyed them a lot. I'm out of shape and I sprained my ankle in judo and it still hurts. Right after i heal, i'm going to train again. They are both mainly grappling. Judo is mostly throws, and BJJ is mostly ground grappling, but it does have throws also but you only stand up for like a few second and then it's all ground. In judo, there is also ground , but you can stall your self on your stomach if you're good enough to avoid it to force both of you to stand up. To me this is my least favorite part of judo, because judo players aren't great at the ground and when I just need 3 seconds to get a full choke they call "MATeh" and you stand back up.

Which do i perfer? Man, that's a tough question.

The Soundman
Have you considered Wing Chung.

Effective as blocking and as striking because you do both at the same time!!!

I did Muoy Thai and found it usful if your of an agressive nature (not meaning that you pick fights with people) as it helps vent pent up aggression!!!

I hope this is helpful

Oh, and make sure you pick a martial art with sparring involved. None of that stupid Kata bull. You aren't going to learn how to fight by fighting the air.
