IMHO, this stuff is analagous to automatic sports cars...sure, it expands the client base, but is it going to be embraced by driving purists? probably not.
anyone car floor it by stepping on the accelerator...but it takes skill to quickly shift and to shift at the right time with a manual, for exmaple.
so anyone can stick CDs in those new CDJs, or click on a couple of mp3s, and then let the software beatmatch for them...it takes some skill to use vinyl though.
is it "bad" to have this technology? no. is it understandable that some DJ purists will look down upon this stuff? yes. |

Yep I totally agree with ya Tristan, and I also agree that it's slighly useless if you already own a mixer/amp, etc.
My problem was bringing in professional DJ's into the equation as a fair critique of the product. Numark isn't claiming it could be used by Digweed. |
that isn't so much a critique of the product as it is of the person using it :p |

which means you guys should stop arguing.. you are each arguing different points (tygon about who uses such a product and jon jon (still lol) about it's merit as a product) |

You're right it's a pointless argument.
My comment about your ignorance wasn't about this product.. it was for the skoff towards DJing as an art form. If you don't believe it's of the same calibre as playing a guitar or piano, then this product would make perfect sense to you.
And I never said I was anything close to a superstar... but you take things out of context and make assumptions with a negative position to make your point. I was stating that you don't know anything about the scene here and can't make judgements like you do.
I was making educated remarks directed at up and comers that can sometimes be fooled by these gadgets. I've spent far too much money in the past on products with bells and whistles, so presently I try to educate people so that they can avoid these mistakes.... but hey... if you're one of the few that has hundreds of dollars to spend on toys for house parties... by all means............ |

Deep down in my heart, I don't think beat matching two records is as of the same calibre of playing the piano. No chance. |

...you're absolutely right... but perhaps with a little luck you'll realize that there's more to DJing than beatmatching two songs together ;) |

| i'm an ARCT trained piano player, and a "dj" lol. i'm still pretty horrible at it, but have been improving a bit. i just use cd decks (numark axis 8's) so it doesn't have the bells and whistle "beat sync" button to make you sound like tiesto lol. you need to know what you're doing and i still have a lot to learn. and i give credit to accomplished djs, cause it does take a lot of work to always be on your mixing game, and read the crowd to keep the crowd going. but as a musician, its a far strech to put even the best of djs on par as a piano player/or other instrumentalist. and i make that comment based on the skills needed to master each art form, and their is a much greater learning curve to become an accomplished musician. |
