Why would you have to pay for the same thing twice? It's really not that different from buying a CD, ripping it to your HD, then having the CD break and copying your ripped file back to another CD. |

Yea. That's not really a big deal. Once you have the rights, you have the rights.
Besides, whenever I buy a CD, it stays in it's jewel case safely stored away after I duplicate it and rip it at 320kbps anyway! At least. That's what I've been doing now.
I hate having accidents with my shiny pieces of plastic. |

yes... i download tunes i have on vinyl all the time (since it's easier & normally better quality than me ripping them), and don't feel bad about it... even though it's technically illegal |

anyone in the business/industry knows how much this is hurting us. all those who arent dont realize the bigger picture here & how destructive this ACTUALLY is.

i've bought from/browsed loads of recordstores online, at least 10 different ones i think. and only one of them has ever required visa/mastercard, the rest i've been able to do with a solo debit card (although not sure if you get them in other countries)
can you not apply for a visa anyway? i got one last year, just to use in situations like that, i use my debitcard for everything else whenever i can |

I still find it hard to believe it's THAT destructive for the artists. As others already pointed out, only a very small portion of the actual music revenue goes to them, the ones who deserve most of the money in my book.
The fact that the 'industry' as you call it suffers from this does not really bother me. As I said, they're taking away too much money from the artists anyway. |

That's what I was saying. Artists shouldn't be affected that much because the rest of your beloved 'industry' keeps grabbing away most of the money involved anyway.

Downloading MP3s you haven't paid for is wrong. End of story. This is what samples are for on Juno, iTunes, beatport etc, to get a feel for the song. Many people would look down on someone who walked into a record store, nicked a CD, took it home, tried it, and if they didn't like it, take it back? It would and should cost you money to do that (like video rental).

Again, you should know if you like it or not from listening to radio, sets, webcasts, samples etc. I bet alot of people don't LOVE a track but they'll keep it incase they need it in the future.
You wouldn't let someone go to your house, take your plasma TV that you'd worked your ass off for, and say "oh it's not illegal 'cos I'll bring it back tomorrow if I don't like it, and if I do like it, I'll keep it and go out and buy another one".

Well sorry people, but they're the p2p of the illegal mp3 world. Without them, the artists don't get recognised/promoted/advertised to a high standard. The artists get more money than if they weren't with these kinds of companies.
If they don't promote certain artists, then that's fine. Suppos-ed artists who you'd never otherwise hear of can officially upload their stuff online if they wish.

It's not just the artists and the CEOs who you're stealing from. The people who burn the CDs, sound techinicians etc get slightly less money to, pay their rent, go on holiday, feed their families etc. Yes, on a grand scale, it all adds up.

There are ample means to buy tunes. Yes, not all stores have a wide variety, but that's 'cos they're not allowed the rights (yet) to offer it for purchase, because the artist hasn't given permission. And that's the way it should stay.
