I am well aware that they were middle eastern individuals however, the majority of people see east indians and think they are terrorists....hence why I said east indian.
Personally, I would rather have a cop pull me over and make sure I wasn't the bad guy then have the cop being affraid to pull me over in case I wasn't the bad guy. If I have to be inconvienced just a little bit to make sure that my community is safer then I will live with that. The problem is...most of these young black males take it personally and think it is a racial thing. The problem is the cops get a description of young black male between the ages of 18 - 25. If the cops had better descriptions of the individuals then maybe they wouldn't have to stop and talk to every black male between the ages of 18-25. |
Well u cant exactly go by eye colour or hair colour. Maybe for hair we could use nappy and non nappy as descriptions. LOL
Seriously though, let the cops do their jobs and question whomever they need to. Otherwise this is going to get worse. Oh and maybe half these guys who are here illegally should get deported? This goes for anyone here illegally btw. |

I agree...there is no reason why people who are here illegally should be able to stay here. I am not saying these people are the problem....I would just rather see all the paper work be completed. If you are going to move to a country do it the legal way. |

about what? A pakistani making a joke about his own culture or an observation that is 100% true?
If a white guy had said what the black councilman had said then he would have been forced to resign over allegations of racism. You know it and I know it. |

searching blacks alone is wrong. searching ANYONE who looks like they are up to no good is the RIGHT way to achieve their goal.
i was having this discussion and i really think that a lot of people are missing the bigger picture here. its the same way pigs stop/harrass people who looks like drug dealers, its no different. guns kill point blank if in the wrong hands so why not monitor it. if caught with a weapon then its confiscated and that individual gets what he/she deserves. that will be one less gun that could have potentially cause serious harm.
if they can practice this and do it in a quick & polite manner then i see no harm in it. |

Strange, electronic music seems to have become quite a big scene here without the aid of the big record companies? This sounds like nothing more than a blatant liberal anti-corporate ideology - but since I know you to be a reasonable person, I will assume it was just worded awkwardly. The "audience" has a choice. The "audience" has the market power, not the record companies. If we all listen to the "underground" stuff, it should logically follow that anyone can if they choose to.
If you want to know why small businesses and labels can't succeed as well as the large corporations, forget about marketing and look at the tax and regulatory burdens. Corporations can afford it, the little guys can't. Record companies can press CDs at less than a penny each, but if I wanted to send out a bunch of CD-Rs, I'd have to pay more than 25c each, and why? Because of a government levy, which accounts for about 24 of those 25 cents, which is supposedly going to the recording industry!
| quote: | | Poposturous! Again bad = $$$$$. Good = Boring. In reference to black urban youth culture I would guess that for every gangster rapper out there there are 5 poets, rappers, artists, writers that proport social upliftment, anti violence and an overall positive message. It is these people that should "sell a million records and be making a dash." |
Being a good role model isn't just about having good ideals, it's also about being able to express yourself well and make an impression on people.
One problem with a lot of these poets and artists and writers is that they get too political, they go way too far with their message and they lose everyone in their potential audience who's even slightly right of center.
The other problem is not that they can't afford to market themselves like the big guys, but that they PRIDE themselves on being "underground" and prefer to stay that way, much like many people in the electronic music scene. So it doesn't matter how good a role model you are - if you don't even make an attempt to get your message out, then nobody is going to hear it.

there are plenty good role models out there, i agree that society has turned bieng a "thug" into something good. even the white kids want to be thugs. |
EXACTLY, and that's the explanation for why a lot of people claim to be hassled by police and so on. Doesn't matter if you're black or white (although police are probably more apprehensive of the blacks), but no matter WHO you are, if you dress and act like a criminal then you are going to get treated like a criminal.
I sincerely believe that cops are less likely to detain a black man in a 3-piece suit than one who's all thugged out and blasting gangsta rap at maximum volume. |
