By "solving" the problem, I meant convincing people to let it go :p I do think sigs have become more hilarious lately :D |

What do you base this comment on? The only reason sex has some stigma attached to it is because of religion. When it comes down to it, human beings are animals, a truth most all of us try and avoid. Sex is in our instinctual nature, it was made pleasurable for a reason. I could probably try and make the argument that using 'swear words' is as 'bad' as having sex. |

First things first, so let me answer the question:
Using an approach similar to yours, and stressing the fact that human beings are animals indeed, I base my comment on the fact that sex has both social and biological consequences. Yes, human beings make sex for reasons other than reproduction, but that's how we all came to this world, ins't it? That's the main goal, and also the main risk.
Whenever a woman gets pregnant, that's not a personal matter anymore, but rather a social one. How will society foster this new child, if not in an organised institution (let it be marriage, tribes or families with more than one nucleus)? I'm being very brief as I'm really sleepy now, but that's the basis of my argument. Once sex is seen as something as casual as eating or drinking, the whole biological and social impact are ignored, which are the roots of many contemporary problems (although I'd be naive to say they didn't exist previously to some extent).
As for "swear words", your analogy wouldn't be too innacurate, which could be explained both by the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis and social rules. |

well i definitely agree...i mean i don't want a girl that is ing other dudes...but its like this. lets say things don't work out with this ex girlfriend of yours, eventually you'll move on to meet new women and want a relationship with them...at that point in time the fact that you've had a previous relationship and had sex with someone else shouldn't be a cause for your future girls to not want to date you...that's all i'm saying...but you're right its definitely hard to go back to someone that you've been with knowing there have been people since you, but i think the key factor there is time. what if five years went by...you guys had broken up and gone separate ways and then for some chance reason you meet again and realize all of the wonderful things about each other and try to date again. well, it would be absurd to think that the two of you haven't tired dating since you broke up...so in that situation would it still be a problem that they might've been with someone else? so i think the time window that is what matters on that one...at least for me.
and ultimately like i said earlier...i agree with a lot of what you guys are saying, i'm just trying to argue for us serial ******s out there hahaha :p. this started out as orbax arguing that promisquity is an indication of personal character and i'd have to agree to a certain extent...i'm just saying that the context of that promisquity is important too...i mean no one wants to be with a girl that goes through 10 guys a month...but if a girl has slept with a couple of guys before me i don't automatically discount any kind of future with her because of it.
anyway...nice little debate hehehe...haven't had a thread worth debating in while :p |
