Google Talk, Google's long-expected entry into the IM and VoIP market, has arrived. As predicted, Google Talk is a full-fledged IM client based on the open Jabber protocol with VoIP thrown in for good measure.

For just plain text IM, you can use any Jabber capable client. I've been logged in for the past few hours with Trillian. ;) |

doesn't Jabber support only come with Trillian Pro? |

Unfortunately yes. If you don't have the pro version, you could try something like GAIM or Miranda IM which are 100% free. |

Not only that but Trillian also supports Gmail, including Gmail notifier.

what's the deal with the VoIP? Can I connect a special phone to my computer? Use that to make long distance calls? Can I recieve calls if people dial a number like a landline?
