:wtf: is in Kuwait though besides cheap gas.
And marta really isn't that bad. It may smell of urine. All the trains may have a weird yellowy tinge to them. Homeless people may ride the trains from time to time. Heck, one time I set next to a guy who was having one hideously lethal bowel movement (or so I presume from the visceral grunting he was emitting and the bug-eyed look etched upon his visage). But I haven't gotten robbed at all, and it's generally a relatively cohesive environment despite all the... quirks that go with the territory. |

haha, total chaos  |

Yup, down at my work fuel was $3.99 and up when I went out for lunch. For some odd reason it's still $2.79 and up here in east cobb though... |

I paid 2.9 this morning.
And back to the discussion about mass transit...
I heard on the NPR that last year 825 high school students were killed on the road last year. Guess how many were taking the bus? Five.
We all know Atlanteans can't drive. You should be more worried about traffic accidents than crimes in mass transit when it comes to Atlanta. Unlike traffic, mass transit only gets safer with more people using it.
I understand it's dangerous in PR or Guatemala and I probably won't take mass transit there either but this isn't those countries. Your fears are unfounded. |

and let me add in this too:
scott took public transportation everyday when he was in high school (in NYC) and while he was working there
scott did you ever incounter any crime while you were on the new york subway when you were there?? |

Scott that would be all fine and dandy if Atlanta had a bus system that was worth a damn.. From my house in Lawrenceville, I would have to walk 2 miles to catch the bus take it to 85 find a bus that went to Lilburn transfer to a buss that went to Tucker. Transfer to a bus that went to Doraville and then walk at leas a mile to my office. Other employees of mine would have to take a bus in Marietta go to a marta station. Go to 5 points station and take a train to Doraville and then walk a few miles to work. After a 3 hour total trip they get to work! GUESS WHAT FOLKS?!? The time that I SAVE by still driving is worth the $.50 a gallon more I am paying today for gas over last week. Get real people! Most people don't have a problem paying $30 a gallon for your Starbucks coffee but a hurricane hits the coast and makes gas go up and everyone panics and is ready to riot. Give me a break. Look at it this way. I pay what $.50 for the bus and I had to take two and I pay $1.75 for the train so that is $2.75 each way to work. (not including the Power-aid I had to buy so my fat ass could walk the 3 miles that I had to walk!) So follow me here... $2.75 each way to work and my work is 20 miles from my house. My car gets 20 miles to the gallon if I drive like I stole the damn thing. So I use a gallon on the way to work. I saw gas for $2.89 on my way into work this morning. So I paid $.14 to drive my happy ass to work and listen to some tunes over taking the bus and spending 3 hours to get to work. Which should I choose?!? Marta is all fine and dandy for you and Leeann who live near the station and even better if you worked down near Olympic park. I would take it too. But for the rest of the 95% of the population in this city the transit system SUCKS over New York or Chicago!
That is my rant for the day... We now return you to your regular scheduled program.... |

Oh I agree that, Atlanta's mass transit in it's current state is not logistically and economically viable. Or else I would be taking it to work. I'm merely posing my arguements for mario and javi's reason not to take mass transit is crime.
I've taken mass transit for over a decade in nyc. I usually just sleep the 45 minutes it takes me to get home. I've came home 4am in the morning drunk off my rocker many times and never been robbed or attacked. You just have to be smart about it. Keep all your possessions (school bags, purses, ipod) firmly under your grasp. Sit in crowded trains when you can. If it's late at night and the cars are empty, sit by the conductor or train operator. |

It tends to be safe here in NYC since the vast majority of people who work in NYC have to take the subway. (7,000,000 take the subways here during the day) Even at night, I feel relatively safe since up to 500,000 people take the subway nightly. We're more concerned about terrorist attacks than about getting murdered on the subway :( :nervous:
Comparing the safetiness of NYC and the ATL mass transit is like comparing Apples and Oranges...too many variables to consider |
