yah, but i can't remember the last time i have heard of any crime happening on MARTA. of course they might be thief but you tell me where that doesn't happen (hell when i worked in an office was stolen from me). |
http://www.itsmarta.com/police/crim.../comparison.htm
so you only have between a 3% and a 4% chance of being involved in some sort of crime...that's not bad at all |

Oh I agree that, Atlanta's mass transit in it's current state is not logistically and economically viable. Or else I would be taking it to work. I'm merely posing my arguements for mario and javi's reason not to take mass transit is crime.
I've taken mass transit for over a decade in nyc. I usually just sleep the 45 minutes it takes me to get home. I've came home 4am in the morning drunk off my rocker many times and never been robbed or attacked. You just have to be smart about it. Keep all your possessions (school bags, purses, ipod) firmly under your grasp. Sit in crowded trains when you can. If it's late at night and the cars are empty, sit by the conductor or train operator. |
Ok I will give you the point that the crime is not TOO bad on Marta. I personally have had a young black male say some words to me and the group I was in and then show his gun to prove that he was a man while we were taking the train to a football game. I am kind of used to it being that I walk into crack houses for a living. Yes, I agree that if you are smart about it then you will be fine. I took the NY subway for years too and never had a problem. My biggest bitch is that regardless of the crime rate, it is not an option for 95% of the population to take Mass transit in this city.
Leeann thanks for the link to the clean air campaign. It is great that someone is trying to get people to take a different way to work. Too bad it will never happen in this city. You would have to pay me a hell of a lot more then $3 a day to bend my schedule and waste time taking mass transit. Just my feelings. |

initially missed that... :o
even if you drive reasonably safe, you still can't guarantee that the probability of having no accidents will be 100% all the time. you still have that small chance, like you have the chance of being a victim of a crime on the mass transit system |
