Modem trouble

For some reason I can not connect my motorola sb5120 to my computer through ethernet cable! does anyone have any ideas?? i'm using an intel d865perl

56k modems will only connect to a telephone line. sorry nice try though :stongue:

check if your computer recognizes that the modem exists ..

control panel >> system >> hardware devices ..

if it is not listed, then your computer is not recognizing the connection to the modem ..

it may also be the actual cable itself ?? .. do you connect/disconnect the ethernet cable frequently from the modem ?? is the room where the modem is located a hot area ?? try cutting the plug end of the cable, and make a new cable ..


of course, the most logical is the cable ..

Tried multiple cables... none work.

Device manager doesn't see the modem except as a USB modem (which is how im connecting now)

give the modem a beer .. it probably isnt connecting, because of lack of alcohol consumption ..


try re-installing the drivers .. your computer probably labeled your cable modem as a generic device, not knowing it is a motorola modem ..

if not, then your cables are the suck .. get new ones please .. :rolleyes: ..

or maybe it's time to give your modem the ol' hack-sor .. it'll wake it up ..

I just bought new cables! I've tried 4 different ones
