Our Scene Needs a New Superstar!! re: DJ's today

Something I've been thinking about for quite some time now. I think a new prodigy superstar DJ would shake things up again, re-invigorate things. Someone to really push and ride this new wave of dance music.
The last time I got really excited about hyping up a rookie, was when JZ came to town. Sasha mentor, etc.
In the meantime, the veterans are holding it down quite nicely, and very few have fallen off their pedestal. (Picotto comes to mind) The trance superstars have possibly wavered, in my opinion only because the production hasn't been there to back them up. Playing a setlist with 4 year old tracks doesn't really excite me.
I think a lot of the Nubreed dj's of the past (Lawler/ Howells/ Sander) have now firmly found their place in dance music history and I think their careers will only continue to gain momentum.
SUPERSTARS? Where are you?
-Fanciulli
-Angello
-Prydz
-JLC
-even Luke Fair could be a contender!
Comments? Anyone? |

Good question. I'd say I'm talking mostly about DJ's, as in relation to the clubbing scene.
But of coures, in order for these new DJ's to bring something exciting and fresh to their performance they would probably have to be producers as well. They go hand in hand don't they? |

i hope to high hell that Angello continues to play @ the new Boa.. if this guy stays focused he will be HUUUUGE..
Luke Fair is getting some much deserved recognition as of late. Anybody who impresses diggers obviously deserves much respect. |

| i would think to become a new super star DJ you would need to have a gimmick. a new technology perhaps. some new additions to performances. something more creative than just mixing. |

I think Prydz could have the buzz/ talent to push it further than anyone else on that list. Having commercial success coupled with an umbelievable ear in and out of studio is deadly.

The thing that always makes me wonder about the "superstar dj" label, is that is it just that, a label? Like how many times do we hear..."oh my god <insert big name dj > in owned me all night!!!"...or..."that was the best set i've ever heard...<insert big name dj > is god"
Was he/she really that good, or is it just the name that makes you say that? If I got up there and spun the exact same set would you say the same thing?....I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think us as music fans are going to have open our ears a little better in order for some of the fresh faces and sounds to evolve the scene. |

:stongue: :haha: :haha:
thats something ive always said.
what i like to hear from "superstar djs" is tracks ive never heard before and may never hear again all night long. white labels, unreleased tracks etc. and that u dont get with smaller than superstar djs.
if they DO play known tracks, they gotta do a hell of a lot of sampling, fx etc to get me to care about seeing them again |
