It's all about preferences. It may very well be a cheap exploitation of Trance, but I like it. I really don't care what it's an imitation of, or how it came to be, or how much better it was back then. Any other negative quality you attach to it still won't change the fact that I (and many other people, although I'm not bringing that up here as justification of why I like it) like the sound of it. That's it. You could type out a 3-page essay why Not-Trance is crap, and it wouldn't matter at all to me, because until I get sick of it, I don't care what other people have to say about it. |
And that's perfectly fine, you're entitled to your opinion and your taste. I'm just explaining to you that I have a damn good reason for "bashing" him - get it? I, and many others here, are not just doing it to be "cool". We dislike him and the music he plays for easily explainable reasons other than popularity and/or mainstream acceptance.
So at this point, there should be no further argument, unless it's simply gnawing at you that somebody had the nerve to knock the music you love - in which case, please call a WAAAmbulance! |

I think LKD's post of the top jock for the last 8 years was a good indication of why this backlash is happening.....
think about it.....
3 years back to back - that's the problem - most people could agree that he owned 2002 trancewise...maybe even 2003 (tho I would have said Ferry Corsten) but 2004 too....that is how you know that someone has become commercialized - because those that pride ourselves for being "so called" underground hopped off the Tiesto bandwagon a while ago - but a whole lot of new trancecrackers jumped on and they keep jumping on in massive numbers......
so the numbers are skewed in favour of Tiesto because he is a gateway DJ into EDM - same as Oakenfold was in 2000 for the US....
The one thing with Oakenfold tho - he took so pretty risky chances with his artist albums - though he may have failed in some ways.....he did take those leaps (respect to that) - as he has throughout his career - playing many styles over the latest 15-20 years.
I would be very surpised if Tiesto gets the top spot again this year......I am hoping the crown gets passed - I think it would be better for him too in the long run.....unless he does an about face and inject new life into the "art of trance" music itself - he will be ridiculed for eternity as the MC Mario of trance....

Jenn you are so right - with a Dj like Sasha - his sets very every 3 months.......

it has nothing to do with what they want.. they have people vote for a reason.. if people vote Tiesto.. I am sure he will win again!
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he does win again this year even though I don't think he needs the spot again. |
