Are we on the wrong forum???

Hi,

Just had this question about myself and a few others whos post I regularly read.

First off, myself and these few others are not big fans of pop-trance. I mean the cheesy light type of trance. Most of what AVB plays these days and some other “big named” trance djs. I mean its ok sometimes and I'll put it on in my room here and there but that’s about it. But when I’m at an event, at 4am the soft light stuff won’t keep me dancing or awake for that matter. The pop trance style just fades away as the night goes on. A perfect example of this is when AVB was in MTL this year at the O. Deep into the set at a breakdown while he was going crazy, he expected the crowd to do the same thing. This was far from the case. Thousands of bored partiers just stood there with barely any noise. AVB even made a sleeping gesture to the crowd. It wasn’t that all thousands of the people there were tired, the music was just so light and boring. I witnessed this at the Kool Haus where people were trying to get into the set (the couple thousand poeple behind the die hard AVB can do no wrong fans) but just end up standing there instead of dancing.

Personally I prefer the techy, dirty electronic sounds at clubs, even the harder techno stuff at times. The kind of sounds you’ll find at the trend setting European clubs and the reason I listen to electronic music in the first place. I even like some progressive choons. Some of which are very well done tracks. And even at 130 bpm still pack some punch on the dancefloor. I’m not a prog head and I’m certainly not one of those who hate prog, or say prog sucks and then get upset when someone says trance sucks (don’t get me wrong though some prog can get really boring as well). But the pop trance stuff, I listen to here and there but imo it doesn’t fly at clubs in terms of energy.

If you disagree with me just download the AVB interview I posted on here a few months back when the interviewer asks the state of the global trance scene (referring to people who say trance is dead). Even AVB had to admit in the video “There was a time when trance was cool”. AVB had to admit those times are no more.

So is it just AVB/ASOT style who bores the crowd (I mean the objective party goer, not the guy who attends every AVB set and says "OMFFFFFG AVB pwned me holy !"). Because there are some DJs who play much more energetic trance and that are not pop-trance oriented.

P.S Its not like Sasha style electro/pop these days is any better!

I think the term "trance" (in tranceaddict) has come to symbolize our vibrancy and youthful spirit... lol

I personally think that all sounds have their place in a night, at a party, in your life. When you go see AVB, you know what he is going to play, so if you are not really into it, why not just head to another room...

I think armin played pretty well in the Kook Haus, and i am NOT a big Armin fan. He has his style, and his niche, i went to hear that. I got what I was expecting.

I believe its all about variety. Go see different djs for different feelings. If a DJ is playing something i dont like, im gonna leave, and not say that he should not really be playing it.

Well whoever told you that Tiesto and AVB r Trancy symbols is full of or doesnt know much about trance. Trance is very and i mean very wide genre. Tiesto and AVB are just one part of it. The cheesy part for Tiesto and some good Trance on AVB part but yea lately his sets have been cheesy too. Trance however ranges from dark dirty beats of Christopher Lawrence to in your face smack tunes of Marco V.

Tiesto used to be a symbol for Trance and there is no denying that he did alot for the industry. AVB just on the other hand cashed in on what Tiesto and PVD were doing at the time. He duplicated what those DJs were doing and became successful. For me now a days there is so much new talent and so much variety in Trance that labeling one or two DJs as symbol is just not right. To some people Tiesto is GOD so let it be that way, who r we to tell them anything different.
And no i dont think we are on the wrong forum, we are on the right forum as long as you know what you want and what you make of it. The forum is great its the people that make it good or bad or whatever someones opinion might be about this forum.

Very true, but would you agree AVB and Tiesto are almost the reps. of trance these days?

And trancechaos, why is it that trance isnt the same as it was? Is it because a shift towards a different genre? Is it because of the influx of cheese? Or is it because true musicians used to make the music in the 90's. Whereas as these days any old chap picks up Reason and begins fooling around?

All I know is that I go to the club....dance....enjoy the music and go home. I don't care to know the name of the track or who produced it or any of that stuff. I go have a good time and come home. I like it all...some nights I like other styles more then others but overall it is all great.
