after seeing james holden...and then seeing matt darey right after...i cant help but notice that trance dj's are the f'n nsyncs of dance music. matt darey's mixing was so boring compared to the magic created by holden that we were lucky to witness. its like:
"hmm..i'll put this cd in this deck...oh i will put this cd in this other deck since ive mixed these songs before and it sounds perfect...hmmm deck one is at 136.4bpm, ok gotta nudge up the other deck to 136.4...alright got the new track cued up on the first beat...now i wait and raise my arms up in the air...I am GOD...ok here it comes...1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4...ok now i press play on deck 2...uh oh beats off a little...dont worry i just turn the wheel...there we go...fade out song one and perfect mix...now back to GOD pose...repeat for x number of hours"

Un freaken believable. Crawled into the door around 12:30 this afternoon.
Started off the night at Julia's to do a quick meet up and walked over to Spundae to watch Mikes opening set. Mike is throwing down an exclusive set by spinning with out headphones. lolol sweeeet tracks Mike, and great mixing despite the minor set back. :D
We all then take off to Avalon. We see a bunch of TAs front and center in the line. They must have been camped out for an hr already and yet Avalon doesn’t let anyone in until another hr and a half later. Froze our ass’s off.:whip:
We all get in and go over and do our little TA meet up and then hit the dance floor right away. It’s true that Lavelle was messing up on his mixing, but damn he did play some hot tracks though. I feel he did do a great job getting everyone ready for Holden with his track selection, but at times made everyone cringe with his trainwreaks.
Holden gets on and destroys the crowd. This is the first time I have ever seen him play and it won’t be my last. Very talented young man. Just watching him up there blew my mind. So sure of himself and his abilities. Killing us all. I had such a great time dancing with everyone. I did sooo much dancing. geeeez
Then a bunch of us stuck around for the After Hours. Matt took a little to warm up and get us all going, but when he did, man oh man. He kicked ass. Great high energy trance to keep us all going. We stayed until 6:30am, then all headed over to Bobs for the after after hour power. More great mixing by Bob, Mike and Eric. It’s so nice to have somewhere to go and wind down with friends and more music. Thank you for this Bob.
I want to say, thank you Sarah for being my partner in crime last night. You rock girl. :D |

I totally forgot to post about After Hour Power. I agree with what everyone said. How could they put those lame curtains down while James is still playing, and then bring on a pure cheesey/annoying trance DJ? The crowd died down majorly right when he started.
Matt Darey's music was like this ------> BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!
I felt like I was in a nightmare throughout what I saw of his set. I saw Michelle, Kris, Mike and a few others were enjoying his set, and I honestly don't know how people can stand that music. Holy crap. He reminds me of Steve Crapo (Castro).
I keep forgetting I shouldn't talk though.... everyone has different taste in music. :nervous: |

Just to reiterate what everyone else said, holden was bloody amazing!! :p
That was one of the best sets I've seen in a long long time. It was so weird and dark and grooving and fresh. I've been sort of tired of going out and seeing big name DJ's and hearing new and good songs but not hearing any real originality to their sound. Its been so long since I've heard a DJ and felt the huge rush I did when I heard Holden. Every track he played was amazing and the mixing was so flawless. Holden didn't just mix the songs together like a DJ he wove them together like a true musician. I was sorta weary of his mixing because I have heard some of his live sets and the mixing isn't always the best. But last night really blew my socks off. It was mixed just as well as his Balance or his Fear of a Silver Planet but all live.
I enjoyed James Lavelle's set despite his horrible mixing. he played alot of great tracks. it was kind of entertaining for me to hear him mess up all the time. :D
I talked to him for a sec. after his set and he was completly blitzed :p i tried to ask him what remix of "in a state" he played, but it didn't seem to work out to well. He just was mumbling and slurring words together. covesation sorta went like this? "hey James I really liked that remix you played of your 'in a state' who did that remix? and he goes "ooooh UNKLE" and i say "yeah i know its one your tracks under UNKLE, but who did the remix" then he says "mhasdfammmuuuuuh I'n a state" and i keep saying "yes i know i know but who did that remix??" then he just mumbled on again incoherently and i think i made out him say moby but i'm not too sure :p
it was great meeting all the TA's there. Jeffree and I had a blast. but both of our bodies are completly destroyed. i'd kill to be sitting in a hot tub right now |

that was so lame how they brought down the curtain and totaly closed out James Holden before his last song was over. when the security dude was pushing us all back i thought like a light was loose or something on the cieling and they were moving us all back because they were worried about it falling. then when i saw the curtain come dowin with the AHP logo i was like "blaaaaah sooo lame"

^^^Speaking of Moby.... Lavelle played this one song that goes "It's not you, it's the E talking". WOW, that song blew me away! Curly told me it's a Moby song.
The song is on one of the Sasha sets I have on my computer, but I don't feel like going through all of them to find it. Does anyone have that song on mp3 so they could send it to me? I'd really appreciate it! :gsmile: |

soulwax - e talking is the only song that contains the lyrics "its not you, its the e talking." Maybe Lavelle played a new remix of it or something. theres only three that i know of, Rex The Dog/Tiga/Nite Version.
Holden played these tracks that I remember:

and towards the end, there was a song he played that was really nutty and it made everyone go insane...i have a sound clip of it on my camera i will see if i can upload it somewhere |
