Dont get me wrong I love Lawler and LO3, but I haven't found him one bit influential. If anything he's been more of a follower by jumping on the "electro-house" bandwagon that EVERYBODY seems to spinning to some degree atm. |

Nor should it only take into account DJing.
To me there are three major things you have to look at when deciding who are the best DJs
1. There actual skills as a DJ - not being a DJ or knowing much about it....like many people who enjoy the music....this is hard for some of us to get a full grasp of.
2. The Showmanship - how the DJs perform infront of a live audience and how the crowd reacts to them...how a DJ interacts with the crowd is very important
3. CD Release or Marketing - this is important too...if a DJ has a CD come out in a year that is gonna help their marketing and people getting to hear their product. Good CD sales and marketing need to be considered.
I am glad PVD took over No. 1 but I never saw him perform this year and therefore I could not vote for him. I saw armin and have listened to his new CD. Armin is a good showman...but not nearly as good as Tiesto.....that hurts saying that....but just look...Tiesto sold out The Docks without a problem and I bet if he played the very next night he would have sold it out again. I don't think armin or even PVD has that same marketing ability. That being said....I think Tiesto will slowly move down the ranks now because he is a gimmic and once the wonder of Tiesto starts to wear down....so will his ranking. |

No way. I know I'll get alot of people saying oh he' so great this and that but the fact of the matter is that he is a top local DJ and in every big city across the world and in cities that have alot more famous clubs then we do, there are these types of DJ's.
Anyhow, I'll say it again, I find it really funny how seriously aggervated people get from this. The fans care about it more than the DJ's. Let's just face it that if every person on this site had to make their own version of the 100, there would not be 2 lists exactly alike infact not 2 people will even have 50 people that they can agree deserve to be on it!

I agree that Mark Oliver shouldn't be on the top 100 even though I love what he does. He doesn't travel enough and a local hero cannot and should not make the top 100. |

yea there is a heavy tribal influence in the beginning as all of his started off really drummy at that time BUT midset he would always switch it up to a more electronic style ... 41 min mark === pure LAWLER!!!
even listen to lights out 2 and youll find a heavy electronic influence on it! if u ask me he was rocking that long before alot of the other big boys caught onto it! |

Marc Oliver is a very good dj..it is just he never really has risen above being a resident.I dont think this is anything more than a popularity contest.The good thing is that more people participated this year in voting than ever, which can only be good for edm in general.The bad thing is, I see producers on the list who dont Dj.
My top 5 this year:
1.Chris Liebing
2.Adam Beyer
3.Ben Sims
4.Valentino Kanzyani
5.Preach (he will be within the top 50 in the next 3 years...mark my words)
I knew none of these guys would win, but technically their deck skills are strong and they have delivered great live performances as well as good productions.IMO this is what the poll should be about. |

I disagree with the last 2.
First off, a DJ is there to play music and to make you dance, not to entertain you like a clown. While crowd interaction does create a more memorable experience, it has nothing to do with how good a DJ actually is. And it shouldn't. I could care less how many times a DJ waves and smiles at the crowd if his mixing/track selection/talent is horrible. It's about the music, so they should focus on that.
Second, PR/Marketing has nothing to do with a DJ's talent. That's all about "exposure" and "promotion", but as we've seen this year a CD release doesn't help at all. Some of the more notable CD releases this year didn't help the DJ's at all in this poll. |

Yeah and also that Techno isn't recognized like Trance is in the marketing/commericial/main stream world. The list is way too general and biased like that, maybe they should consider having it splif like on the DJ list or something of that nature.
I'd put down Marco Bailey somewhere in there (my fav Techno DJ):thepirate. |

I meant THIS year specifically, not previous years.
And back then, even though he moved into a more "electroey/acid" sound as his sets went on, it still stayed very much in the sexy, groovey house. Whereas now, most of his set is very electro-based, with a few housier tracks here and there. Just look at his set from Skybar, or his EM/Kiss100 sets from this year. He's very very into the raw electro sound now. |

In a perfect world...you are right number 2 and 3 don't mean a hill of beans....but when you are at the level of these DJs it is these small things that make the difference. The majority of people who vote for this don't know the technical side of DJing....anyone of the top 50 DJs could spin the same set and the majority of the crowd wouldn't be able to tell them apart.....it's the other two points that make the difference.
Even though many of these DJs will probably say they don't really care about the ranking but lets be honest....they know how much it means to their pocket books for being number 1. |
