well you seem to be the expert on our culture and media impacts and all that. so share how this only happens in america? since that's what you're implying. And, think whatever you feel like. Most blacks do not listen to EDM not matter how many of your friends do.

u right. they respect individuality in different areas.

well, u just gotta be aware that it's difficult to be seen as part of "the group" in collectivist cultures :p...

I never said it only happens in the US, but just stating that the way Americans go about individualism is more harmful than helpful to society. From my experiences, most Americans don't know how to respect individualism, but pretend they to do. And I know most blacks don't listen to EDM. In fact, im the only black person I know that listens to EDM.
Maybe some of you should try living the knowledge that your the only person of your race that you know who listens to a certain type of music... its quite exhilerating actually and can put some things into perspective...

I'm beginning to get left with that impression with the far and few in between s that managed to dwell among this massive community here. To them I say as someone who is a longtime TA and OMG Black and love Trance and hate rap, guess I must be some freak for not fitting a stereotype. Its one of the reasons I was attracted to EDM and Trance, considering it is so global and encompassing. The world will always have ignorance, who gives a about them, far more respectul people out there. Thank goodness. TA4ever

As I black individual myself ive actually found that white people are more critical on the fact that I listen to Trance or EDM in general. The majority of the white people I have encountered after telling them I listen to EDM say like "OMFG, you are the whitest black kid ever!" or "Why don't you listen to rap". God each time I hear that I ing want to smash their face in with a ing anvil. All the black people that know I listen to EDM, only asked once and never again questioned why I don't listen to rap or hiphop, and didn't have any effect on our relationship at all.

Ive been listening to EDM for the past 5 years, and have dealt with preaty much all the type of you can think of when it comes between what others percieve I listen to and what I actually do listen to.Its just because people in general become so attuned to the way certain racial groups are and act, that when encountered with a situation like this can't handle it properly. Its kind of like white people wearing "black cloths" and dressing like a thug or gangster. To me its annoying as hell when people try to tell other people what is acceptable to wear based upon their race. Thats just insane IMO. However, I think most of what is occuring happenes primarily in the US because of teenagers and young adults in general are being brainwashed by the media, though ive never been overseas anywhere so I could be wrong. Though as someone stated earlier, it isn't nearly as evident when looking at older adults.

Overall listening to EDM just makes me feel more unique and different and more pround to be black than anything else.;) Most people in the US, however, see being different or unique as a bad thing as most people here try to blend in with the crowd so they can feel wanted. This is why i'll probably be living in another country sooner or later.:p

Upon reading your post and being black I know exactly what you mean by that. I however never let other people affect my viewpoints, after all I tend to be a bit confident, cocky and very direct in my approach to others. It is hilarious however when in college this white girl asked me that question, oh you listen to that, like she was shocked I didn't listen to hip hop music. It's when people get to know you as an INDIVIDUAL that they then begin to see you for who you really are, seems straightforward but often you are stereotyped immediately. Live and let die is my motto.

Also if you go to Europe there are far more blacks into EDM compared to the U.S. because of its prevalence. How the heck did this thread get started anyway.

well, i didnt read all pages but just for add something:
here in brasil the EDM scene is pretty "white" too, except for the hip-hop rap addicts...
I think argentina too...

Sorry, I read it as " All the black people I know listen to EDM" not the way you actually wrote it. But, I have no idea what you're talking about America and individualism. First off, it doesn't go by America's cutlure but by it's subculture and mainstream culture. It's like this in every single place in the world. In Bosnia even, you wear a cool denim jacket and outa nowhere you're hardcore and stuff. Get it? It's our human nature. I like black people, y'all are cool with me. I like "black food" and . So it's not like i'm attacking you or anything.

However, I trully believe that stereotypes make alot of sense. For example, every black dude i know loves Southern Friend Chicken and amongst other things that i won't talk about because it's ed.

You know, once when I was very young I thought that music brings people together but now I realize it's only while the music is on. When it goes out we're back to reality.

Also, being from the Great NYC, I'm sure you'll agree that the majority of people here, including white and asians are into hip-hop. When I'm on campus chilling and there's a black dude with us, all my friend always are like what do you listen to or something? Like last week my friend Trish brought this kid to chill with us who was black, and my friend Alex gave her his MD player and there was some metal on it and he was like (whatever the band/song was on) "They're really good" and my friend without a hint of stereotype or racism is like " Oh, you listen to metal?" and the dude is like " yeah i don't listen to black music or w/e" my friend was like " Oh dude i never said you did i'm just asking"

But then on the other hand, i'm sitting in one of my classes and me and my friend are listening to his MP3 player to some beats and there's this slut next to me and she's like omfg i hate that techno bull and this black kid next to her is like it's not techno it's prog house shes like :wtf:

Also the stuff about $90k a year, because that has lots ot do with grammar. :stongue: :stongue:

Back to the topic, you might as well ask "why aren't there many white people in Reggae or African drumming?"

Trance has ultiamtely originated in Western Europe and Northern America.
