Why is trance dominated by white people? (pg. 9)

american isn't liberal at all. evangelicals have control of the government right now. the whole country moved right after Reagan.
black people listen to rap because THEY HAVE TO. a black person that doesn't live somewhat by the hip hop lifestyle is looked down upon by other black (until they reach a certain age of course)

btw practically all the white people at my university listen to country, rap, or rock.
some frat people are into cheesy IvD stuff

.... Mike Jones! who? Mike Jones!

It doesn't matter.

No, they don't HAVE to do any such thing. I doubt they would live a hip hop lifestyle if they did not like and choose to live it, or if they preferred another lifestyle. There are many "black" people who do not live the hip hop lifestyle, and I fear you are probably succumbing to the stereotype of "all black people like rap and live the hip hop lifestyle" based on what you've seen on MTV and the relatively few black people who you have seen around you...

Yep, my fears are correct. "All(not all) the people in my tiny corner of the world are this way, so that's how everyone else must be as well".

If it wasn't for liberal living black americans, very likely you wouldn't be here right now. And there are more "white" people in america than other races. Therefore, assuming you're right, even if america was more "liberal", "trance" would very likely still be dominated by "white" people. So in the end, what the hell are you going on about?

You see, it is about "race" or rather, about cultural music origins and their influences on different EDM styles. How so? It has been explained in the thread already.

That has to be one of the most heavily edited posts I've ever seen.

I cant be arsed reading the whole thread, but I'm at a loss to see what america has to do anything of this. Aside from the huge racial divide in the country, how is it relevant? Its not like trance is really represented there by either whites or blacks.

You could go even further and ask why is trance dominated by the dutch? Because they were the pioneers at the time and defined the sound... simple really. And furthermore, why has it been dominated by just a few dozen or so producer/dj's, their friends and their numerous alias's??! Tis just the nature of this wicked EDM club scene I tell you... Got nothing to do with skin colour imho...

yeah they do, do you know any black people? my uni is around 30% black. all of them have to speak ebonics around other black people, and they tone it down around white people.

i knew TWO other white guys in high school that were into somewhat serious EDM

I speak with a slight hispanic inflection to some words when i'm around hispanic people, yet i'm white. That's because I grew up around large numbers of hispanic people as well as whites, and it's just sort of an unconcious thing that happens. Had it ever occured to you that a similar situation might be happening with "all" or some of these "30%" of blacks in your UNI which you have met and had the chance to observe the social behaviors of? Or even another explanation besides that they are forced to? Because the claim that they all HAVE to act a certain way, or even that they all DO act a certain way, holds very little water, mostly due to each claim's logically fallacious reasoning and lack of proof.

they either conform or get outcasted. simple

and i think the liberal - edm tie is pretty much true.
a lot of trance producers are from netherlands, the most liberal country in the world.

not much edm comes from governments with oppressive policies.

edit: I think stuff like that is hard to explain to white people in America because they are the majority, they have diverse portrayals in the media

lol i've never heard than blacks dominate techno and house??? Rap yea, but blacks dont dominate any edm at all.
Aiwendil
^^Like I said, Techno and House were invented by "black" people, and hence have stylistic influences from African Music. Perhaps now they aren't "dominated" by black people, but there was a time when ONLY black people made both Techno and House. And Rap IS EDM.

If you're right, that's not to say they'd speak or act differently were they not outcasted. Very likely the ones who speak and act a certain way would speak and act the same way regardless, because of their upbringing and the people they were surrounded by for most of their life.

No, you don't make a tie at all. You make a causal fallacy. A lot of trance producers were from Germany in the early 90's. Very soon after the Berlin Wall fell. Perhaps before. Opress much? Much too much. Acid House flourished in a repressed 80's Britain. Which race dominates a style of EDM has had little to do with how liberal a country is. Which country produces the most EDM may or may not have something to do with how liberal it was or is at a given time, but that's a different premise altogether.

If by "governments with oppressive policies" you mean places like China or Iran...a lot of stuff doesn't come from those countries. A lot does. Perhaps if they were more liberal people would make more EDM there, and perhaps not. How can you say? You can't, really, can you.

Here you go with your racial comments again. My race has no bearing upon the validity of my statements.

did they produce when oppressed? no. later on german becamse a pretty liberal country.
china in comparison to japan, has much less known EDM producers. and muuuuuch more people
(obviously) there are more civil liberties in japan.

There is also much more technology and a higher standard of living in Japan. There are many possible reasons for there being more EDM producers in Japan than China, only one being that there is less oppression. Nevertheless, I don't see what all this has to do with the topic. Unless you're trying to say that "white" people wouldn't dominate trance if China and India and similar countries were less oppressed. As if all of the sudden millions of people would take up synthesizers as they had always dreamed during their lives working in the rice fields and start making really kickass EDM. It's more of a standard of living and poverty issue than an oppression issue. There's a vibrant club and EDM scene in Hong Kong, but that's to be expected in the most advanced city. Elsewhere, it's not the same.
