Sorry, I just had to get this off my chest.
If you're thinking of buying a CD or a PS3 made by Sony, you have been WARNED....
In short, if you buy a game or a CD, you can in theory not be able to play it ever again if A) your ps3 gets nicked or B) you don't keep it up to date not to mention the ton of malicious hidden spyware it will attract...
Now aside from anything else, this pissses me off. I don't own a PSx, never have done and probably never will do. But all this DRM is really starting to grate on me. What I read about Sony infuriated me so much, and I think it's the way the music / digital rights industry is going. Apple are guilty on a similar scale by not allowing their iTunes to be played on an xBox or any other media for that matter due to their scam that is the iPod. Microsoft are going that way with all sorts of DRM being introduced in Vista and I think it's just plain intrusive, considering as the PS3 will send Sony a ton of information about you as soon as you buy one of these things.
And the RIAA and MPAA don't give a toss because they get their money at the end of the day, but it's simply not fair that DRM is becoming the norm.

| sony has stated that you will be able to play your ps3 games on as many different ps3 consoles as you like. and i believe the xbox 360 can interface with an ipod, apple didn't want it to happen but microsoft went ahead with it anyway. |

From what I've read, you can't take your game round to a friend's house for example, because once you put it in your PS3, it writes onto the CD for good, and thus your game will only be compatible with your exact PS3. As it's on Linux, I'm sure there'll be a hack soon enough, but it's still an outrage. |

| No that seems stupid. What if my ps3 breaks and I buy a new one. I should be able to play my games on my new one |

| i've heard that ps3 will read the CD once and lock the CD from being played on another ps3 unit. however, it will send the "key" online to a sony database with your own account. much like Valve's Steam distribution. if u everbreak a ps3 and get a new one, u simply connect to ur sony account and re-download ur keys onto ur hard drive |

So you have to have internet now? That sucks |

ya, i guess it would need an internet connection to enable the game. Half Life 2 on PC required users to have an internet connection, even for the single player game.
i'm guessing if u don't have the internet, maybe u mail them a peice of the instruction booklet and wait for a "key" to be mailed back?? |

a little correction, The 360 can interface with the Ipods, But you can only play the mp3s you ripped and copied into it, It won't let you play the tunes you bought off at the Itunes Music Store. |

How many times must it be mentioned in this thread that Sony has spoken out against this RUMOR and it's NOT TRUE.
While the creator of PlayStation has patented this technology, it will not be put to use on the PlayStation 3. |

| o ya, i almost forgot about the patent. the patent for this is about 3 (or 5) years old |
