There are many more standards out there. Japanese guys and gals are the most advanced as they use UMTS by standard. In Europe its GSM and GPRS. GPRS is standard now (faster than GSM).
I myself have a triband cell-phone. That helps almost everywhere (except in Brazil and Japan). |
I have a triband phone as well. but all the GSM networks are on the same thingie so your phone is already on those bands..
The same happens when i try and text canada..
I cant send messages to my friend on CDMA Bellsouth in Peru, but i can send them to TIM peru (GSM)...
Im no phone expert by any stretch, but i do know what i have learned from experience which is i am usually not able to send international messages to non-gsm phones.
Maybe im just a loser :( |

This is not a shot at anyone personally. It is simply one of the remaining effects of the cold war. The cold war created a hyper patriotism in the US that resulted in a great deal being taught to children about the US to the exclusion of the wider world. Subsequently, much about your own country is common and obvious to you but relatively unknown or unimportant outside of the US. |
Wow, agree to it. Mostly. America always was a big country and a world of its own. America always had its problems to recognize that there is a world outside "the Nation". That is valid until today. As you can see on how America reacts on 9/11. That was a wake-up call. And America suddenly found out that there is a world outside the US and got fears when they looked around. |

| I will not post my number because I have my cell-phone switched off 23h a day (it is at home and not here). Wouldn't make sense. Ah yeah, except receiving SMS, maybe. I could read them later... |

And by the way... who the hell is Will :wtf:
He called and left a message on my phone but it was a restricted number so I can't call back. I'll just assume it's someone from TA. |

Most international numbers work, if you type in the '+' sign instead of the double 0. Try it again.
Otherwise your phone has 'unlimited long distance' within either your local region :p or within the US :p. Try calling someone on hawaii or in alaska... |

Ooompf. Have my cell phone not here, but I think you will need to press either the "1" or "0" key a little bit longer. One of the signs scrolling through your display might be the "+"... |
