GSM = lil chip behind battery u can take easily in and out, stores provider info and some phone numbers
CDMA = No lil chip, just like programmed or built in compatibility or something..
Preeetttyy much everywhere but north america uses GSM, much easier to roam internationally.. |

Agreed, I find it interesting, but I'll say this, even I had a hard time at first getting used to simply identifying myself as from the "U.S." rather than "Wisconsin" when I left for the Netherlands... Unfortunately, I think identifying yourself with your State is just so ingrained in us U.S. folks from the beginning that in an international context, it's very easy for us to forget that to most people oustide of our borders, identifying ourselvees by our State, especially an abbreviation, probably means very little... |

Canadians do the same thing to a lesser degree. We will often identify ourselves as being from a province (the difference being that we will tag Canada after it because we just assume most people - especially Americans - don't know Canadian geo-political jurisdictions). In many ways it is far more accurate as both the US and Canada are so large that there are vast differences in politics, customs and cultures from one area to another. Telling me you're from Wisconsin gives me a better idea what I should expect from you then just telling me you're from the US. Of course this level of precision only works if one is familure with the divisions within the US. |
