Exactly. The deer story is crap.
The hit and run story is somewhat safe. You don't have to file a police report, and if his dad asks if he did, he can always say, no, he didn't think it would do any good. Basically, he woke up and it was like that.
He will only need to file a police report if they want the insurance to handle it. They'll probably look at the damage and decide if it will be cheaper to pay out of pocket or to take an insurance hike and shelling out the deductible. Any claim on your policy will result in a rake hike. My guess is his dad may ask for a police report, but if theyve got some money, he'll pay out of pocket.
If he tells them he was DUI, theyll either pay for it with conditions, or hell have to pay himself. The responsible thing to do is to come clean, but that's not always possible for a college student. I recommend he lies now and tells them later when he can reimburse the money. If he ever drinks and drives again, punch him. |

Just say he was tired and he had a minor microsleep in the car, next thing he knew he had slammed into a wall. A microsleep happens to most people.
If you don't want to use that then how about, it was late and you saw a animal or something in the middle of the road and at that time of night your mind wasn't functioning to its fullest and with panic you tried to dodge it and u hit a wall.
But hey, at least it could have been worse, he could have killed someone. |

Just tell your roommate to take this picture, give it to his dad and tell the truth. Hopefully the stupidity of the picture will lessen the severity of the situation and he'll get off easy. |
