Should there be a STRIKE?!?
All I know is I have finals starting Friday, which happens to be the day that the strike would begin if no agreement is reached. So, I dont know if this is a good or a bad thing. I just want these tests over with. |

| Based on how strict professors are with exams i wouldn't take any chances. go to school an hour to two hours early to avoid the inevitable traffic that this strike might cause. |

I wouldnt take the highway to school anyway, BUT that would be if I drove a car.
See, my literature teacher said I could email him the final paper - so Im covered there. And my Genetics teacher said she would email the Final the night before in the event of a strike. My Cell Bio teacher said she would postpone the final. But I dont know about my Speech teacher. |

| I'll probably take taxis to school and work as long as they're not cancelled. Jeez, can't wait to get a car :whip:. Even though I don't think they'll strike (or if they do it won't be for that long), maybe it's time to see a change in the transit system. It's a shame that NYC transit can't somehow be privatized or at least slowly transitioned into being automated so that we don't have to deal with stuff like this every couple of years :p . I mean come on, either you want your 8% raise every year OR you want cleaner bathrooms. You don't get both. That's just asking for too much  . |

Does anyone know how long they are demanding they receive 8% yearly raises? It's pretty ridiculous... at that rate their salaries would double every 9 years... |

from a non-involved point of view and im not sure if there is any corrolation between TWC and MTA but what the
HELLO WE ARE PAYING $2 to ride the subway WTF? How much more money do people want ...whether its the mta or the twc or the employees or whatever the it is, geez everyone wants more money, no one is going to want to live in nyc anymore...what the

well i ll say this...
im hoping that there is a strike. yea its going to suck major balls but it needs to be done do you see what the heads of the mta are doing not only to the customers but to their own workers? thing about it they cry broke charge us 2.00 for a fare don t really pay their employees any loot but yet when you check their books they have a billon dollars in surplus figure that one out. another thing is you must understand (brian ) that this goes on every 2 yrs so you always hear bout this. on top of that think about this the other city workers got raises ie fire an police departments specially when 9/11 happened they milked that like no other (what was it 17% out of i forgot how many yrs) teachers were working without a contract for two years yet when they received their contracts they were compensated yet mta workers don t get nowhere near that amount you saw a proposal by the mta officals 3% first yr and 2% after now does that make sense? i think not especially when out of all the city jobs out there mta pulls in the most revenue (through tourists/regular commuter etc)yet always cry broke i'm sorry if i sound a little bias but all the shaddy that mta pulls they need to be put in place and just remember nxt yr i won t be surprised that there will be another raise in fare but again just my .02 |

Okay do I think that some of the things like the 24% pay increases over 3 years are a bit out of control but I thnk that bus drivers and subway workers should have the option to go to the bathroom. As Jay said before the MTA is screwing us and there employees. At least the employees have the balls to stand up for what is right!!!! the "straphangers" should do the same!!!!!!! |
