Im not going to say that they didnt happen, because my grandparents fought in the war, but everyone has their own side to the story - so stop arguing about this .
Trancevandyk, I dont know where you get your statistics, but it was not 120 million Americans - In the 1940's the population in the US could have been no greater than 200 million, so youre going to tell me that 3/5th of the population was in the military?

This was the only physical involvement by the American military during the war in Europe (not including Japan). For most of the war, all they did was sit back and fund the Allied nations with weapons and vehicles. |

what's your point? i was talking about that numbers outmatched the germans even though they had technologic superiority over the allies. didnt make a difference because they were always outnumbered.
ive read dozens and dozens of books, magazines, watched hundreds of hours of documentaries, and collect ww2 memorabilia. i dont just watch saving private ryan:rolleyes: i guess ive inherited my father's interest in history. :) |

Wrong. The USA were in war with Germany since 1941 (since Pearl Harbour). The first physical involvement of US troops was in November 1942, when US troops landed in northwestern Africa (the first landing operation as one of the test cases for 1944, opening a second front, a new west-front against the german troops in Africa). You might want to say that northwestern Africa this is not "Europe", but: forget it. It is not relevant. |

also the allied invasion of sicily and italy in 1943. plus the beginning of the strategic bombing campaign in 1942 with 1000 bomber raids and such. the americans were very much fighting the germans. |

American casualties: @405,000
Soviet casualties: @20,000,000
You cant even compare the contributions to the war in man power. And youre right, its not relevant - how serious of a threat could that African possession have been if America was launching troops there as an experiment? |

What you just said here makes no sense ...first of all our country was never equipped for war, and was not based on the notion that we were a conquering country. We were a peaceful state, that got invaded by a war/death machine, whos primary purpose was to pillage/detroys/conquer. The Germans in those times were what Rome was back in older times. They had the most advanced armament seen by any army. What do u mean we werent defenseless, we had old hunting rifles and horses, while the Germans had the most advanced weaponry, wielding MG42's, Karabiner 98's, Mp40's, Mp44's. Not to mention they had the best panzer division. Bro I know more about ww2 than u, so dont dispute someone who knows their stuff, especially considering that I come from the country who was the sole purpose of going into the war.
We don't really have anti-semites in our country btw, yes there are a number of them, but just as theres anti-semites in every other country including the UK, and so on. I will admit that among our culture we speak about Jews not with so much a hate but more of a look downed upon culture, because they were the main reason our country got invaded, and so much of our heritage was lost, including the lives of our own. That is why many of our people probably dont favor the Jews, it's more of that tone towards them than actual lets lynch those dirty jewbags. |

i think he meant, while the americans were landing in africa, they were also trying out new tactics that had never been tried before, or rarely. like, amphibious landings, desert warfare, coordination between the navy, army, and air force. and also seeing how the germans fought, and they soon found out, that with 3 years of victory, experience, and technology, the germans were the best fighting force in the world. |
