Just before I got diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in June 2003 at the end of my gap year I was very ill!

Leg cramps swelling up tennis ball sizes in the middle of the night.
Could barely see (everything was blurred constantly)
Peeing like a racehorse
Constantly tired
Couple of days away from a Coma me thinks (for those of you medics, my blood sugar was 68 m/mol (meant to be between 4 and 7!)

A very scary time indeed, but then 2 months later I went travelling round the world so yay! :D

Then a really bad throat infection the following December., Could barely swallow and ended up having to spit out my saliva because it was that painful!

I find it funny how most of the comments in this thread come from people playing soccer. And yet there are people who insist that soccer is a "sissy" sport and can't contend with American Football.

Has anyone broken bones playing football (american)?

Oh they happen, its just american football players don't think broken bones and ripped tendons hurt :wtf:

I did have a guy land on the outside of my calf and I folded over top bend my knee sideways. that kinda hurt. i also kicked a guy in the helmet when he dove after me from behind. he got taken out in an ambulance.

Me and my pa were cutting some branches off a tree.
Dad is up the ladder
Anyway,as he was sawing a branch I noticed the ladder move. Not wanting him to fall,I ran to the ladder and footed it and held it,the branch fell from about 30+ feet and swung round and hit my leg.

My dad was ok and he hadn't fallen from the ladder luckily, but I couldn't move my leg.
I was took to hospital, and by that time my muscle in my leg had swolen up to the point I was really scared, the doc told me that the pain would only get worse and the swelling increase, the branch that hit me was thicker all round, than a cd case is tall, but the bruise that imsued went from my hip to my knee.
I apparently only majorly bruised the muscle itself, but I have never felt such pain.
The Doc said if it had hit my head or chest I wouldn't be alive, and I hadn't thought of it,and it was the scariest thought ever.
I couldnt' walk for 2 weeks from a bruise, sounds not much, but the bruise didn't go for over 6weeks after,.

Um, a few have died...

Anyways, I don't know about injuries (I've had more than my fair share, including a broken ankle & slightly ruptured achilles that somehow happened at the same time on the same foot), but as for illness, that would have to go to two weekends ago, when I had a 103.6 fever, bronchitis, respiratory flu, the early stages of pneumonia, and was coughing up blood every 10-30 minutes...not good times.

A few years ago I was at a NYE house party. Myself and four of my friends were in the yard having a smoke. Suddenly, some guy hopped over the fence from the street, shoved two of my friends out of the way, and before my drunk/stoned ass could figure out what was happening he'd slugged me in the head hard enough to give me a concussion. Then he hopped the fence and took off before we could get our revenge.
Went to two different hospitals before we found one with an open emergency room (east-of-toronto = bull). The good part of it was I got out of work for three days :D

the worst from what i can remember is pretty disgusting.

i had a bladder infection when i was 8/9. the day at school was going like any other when through the day each time i went to pee id get a slight twinge after. thought nothing else of it but by the time i was home, after i'd pee a few drops of blood would come out, accompanied by pure pain:whip:

....this lasted for a few days then finally stopped.

:(
Grrrrr
Semi-related question...

Those of you accident prone people, do you find broken bones get less painful each time? My last couple of broken bones i remember my first thoughts being ' not again' rather than 'ouch'.

I get plenty of both. I consume more than enough milk during the day, and have a banana or two. I've forced myself to eat bananas after the cramps started.

broken bones, no. They always hurt. Tendon-related things, yes. I've had too many strained/torn tendons to even keep track of any more.

I've dislocated my knee twice in football (yes, American). The second time was kind of a "ah great, this again" feeling. The first time I sprained the MCL though, which is actually supposed to be more painful. Funny, cause the second time I broke my femur as well.
