How Big is Your Music Collection?

I was just wondering how large of a collection people have? I have about 6000 songs but most ppl tell me that i have way too many. Personally i love it and will continue to amass a larger collection as long as there continues to be great music out there.

i used to collect hardcore...till i realized i collected for the sake of collecting and one day looked at my collection and said wippy doo i have hundreds of live sets ad thousands of singles that i never listen to.

That spawned my great delete...i deleted 90% of it and now am stuck with a collection that i love...more importantly that i listen to.

Large overbaring music collections are for n00bs that think if they have every thing ever made they are some how bigger fans.

Quality over quanity any day.

who cares how much music you dl for free? i respect people that have spent the thousands of dollars on vinyl/cd/mp3 that keep the scene going simply because of their passion for the music...

i wanna be one of those people hehehe :p

If you wanna talk sheer numbers... 7650 songs, amounting to 48 GB of music on my iTunes. No wonder I had to install another hard drive this past week... and I know people whove got more than twice that amount. I can name about 97% of the tracks in my library within a minute, tops. I only listen to about 20% of my library on a regular basis, I'll admit, but I do appreciate the rest of it. I have over 120 store-bought CDs (which amounts to over $1400 spent), and about an equal number of downloaded ones, and all the Essential Mixes from 2005 and 1995 (not counted on my iTunes playlist).

I maintain, however, that I would not have bought at least half of my collection were it not for downloading, so I say downloading is a positive thing (not to start an argument here). Besides, most musicians make their money on tour, not from album purchases. That's where the record company makes its dough...

6,000 songs is not too big of a collection. When you get to 60,000 songs, come and talk to me :D

I personally have about 150 Vinyls, easily 400 CDs (Albums and Compilations) and enough music on my computer to listen to music for over a month straight I'm sure.

Unlike some however, I cherish every tune in my collection and rotate what I listen to fairly regularly, also, It's been a slow build to have what I have now, I can't just download 50 gigs in a month or something because my internet has always been really slow.

I <3 my collection, and I love being able to to suit almost any of my listening preferences with a couple clicks. And making CD's for the car is always fun.. just delve into it headfirst :p.

According to Discogs I have 377 vinyls, CD's and DVD's... I left half of my CD's to my brother when I moved out so it would be over 400 if they were added.

I have around 30-40GB of mp3 and wav files too but those are mostly ripped from my own CD's so they're pretty much the same.

Somewhere in the ballpark of 500-550 releases on CD. It's all I collect really, and, if I download anything (which is rare these days), it's going straight to CD as well. FOOK MP3 quality! (well, 320 ain't too bad, but that's starting to defeat the whole purpose of 'compressed music files' when you get to that size)

Rob from High Fidelity says you aren't a true lover of music unless you have over 500 records :D ...I'm working on it..
