I only like sushi if it's freshly made, I can't buy it if it's been sitting around for a while, like at a store, it grosses me out. But my favorite is the california role, dipped in some soy sauce with the wasavi, it's like butta

the only real health concerns surrounding sushi are

-amount of rice intake
-mercury levels in the fish
-how fresh the fish is

i believe delivery day for sushi places in nyc are tuesdays so by sunday/monday you'll be eating towards the end of the fish. Tell tale is that come tuesday/wednesday, the left overs from last week are what is being those days. ideal would be thursday-friday so on and so forth

god i love sushi!

most ala carte traditional sushi contains a dab of wassabi where the fish meets the rice, this is why it is said to be unorthodox to put wassabi in your soy sauce!

happy sushi!

yes, that is the proper way to do sushi...that's the way i've always done it because i first tried it in japan:p the japanese call it, "the americanized way" of eating sushi...meaning when people put a glob of wasabi in their soy sauce dish.

i take my chopsticks and put a dab of it at the end, and then i lift the fish up and put it between the fish and rice. or i just spread it on if it's like a roll.

oh yea and it's considered rude in japan to let someone pour their own beer.:D

girl knows her sushi =)

and the pour your own drink isn't really considered rude...lets say for the better sense of the word, sacrilegious.
why? i guess the theory is if you pour your own drink you are technically poisoning yourself, it's more like you are a drunk drinking alone which is what the concept means. when someone pours a drink for you, it's more of a custom to "let me pour you a drink so we can drink together" you'll see alot of i pour yours, hand off, you pour mines - even if its inefficient and to some extent retardedly awkward, it's customary.

learn something new everyday about the wasabi thing. most americans i know don't like too much wasabi in their soy sauce. i turn my soy sauce green from wasabi.

rolls are alright but they generally use lower quality fish or frozen sashimi grade. sashimi with a bowl of rice is how i like to eat. that way i can control the level of filling rice. ;)

some sashimi i love:
oh toro - fatty tuna. sometimes a little too rich for me
chu toro - medium fatty tuna is my favorite tuna
live scallop - it's like raw oysters but not as slimey and sweet
lobster sashimi - interesting texture but the flavor is more mild than cooked versions
live shrimp - sweetest shrimp i ever tasted
monkfish
jackfish

remember to swallow the ginger first to clean out your pallet. It tastes like but it's proper & gives good breath.

A note to people in Toronto:

I've tried alot of sushi restaurants in toronto, markham, and richmond hill, and I've finally found the best (reasonably priced) one. It's called Asahi, and it's on the corner of carlton & ontario street. (about 5 minute street car ride east from college station) Really small, usually pretty empty, but the greatest sushi ever. All you can eat for $20.

Now, after eating there, I realize that every single other place I've tried is just kinda average. The tuna especially is amazing. The most vibrant pink I've ever seen. The hotate is also way above average, so tender and soft. And my personal favorite, the unagi, is just perfect. The consistancy of their rice, the ratio of rice to fish, and everything else is just pretty much perfect. Unfortunately they don't have more exotic ones like sea urchin or kingcrab, but I don't even care, cause the others make up for it.

That's it. Go check it out if you want a real treat.

I personaly like ALL sushi, although Sashimi is my fave, all of them I like also but tuna Sashimi is the best, I love spice the sauce with wasabe, used in controlable quantities makes for a great sauce, also the sweet ginger "petals" are yummy too....
