Do/did amateur producers ruin trance
View this Thread in Original format

everyone claims himself to be a producer in these days.
Some people just download the new music maker or sometimes software with a value of several thousands Euros. Lots of crappy tunes are published on the web, online labels sign lots of cheap sounding projects.

what do you think?

It's true to an extent. Somehow the only most generic tracks tend to get "released" by these awful online "labels" (Real Music, what a joke) whereas the original sounding quirky tracks get nowhere.

But I guess that's the way the world works... don't break the norm.

to add to this, I read a while back that Vincent de Moor (highly respected throughout trance) changed to software from hardware. Compare his old stuff with his new stuff, it's not so much the producers as the software they're using, some people are good with it but too many are not.

I think it's just made too easy. Just slap on a few presets and you have a track. And a release from Real Music.

or if it's really good, total-digital. And if it's a tad better, Armada

nah, i think people that have good taste still know where to find good music.

I don't know really - just take a look at any thread on the Producer Promotion forum. There isn't a single negative feedback anywhere no matter how awful the track is.

well considering how many ppl are on here vs. how many producers post in that section, it's rare to find someone who actually will sit down and listen to all the elements of a track that's posted and give complete feedback on each part of it.

i think that production software is too user friendly. you dont need to understand it to make a track, its just that you need to understand it to make a good track. these days there are so many lables (trance specifically) competing to get new tracks, that their standards are dropping significantly. if all labels were fussy then they would all go bust, because there is simply too much competition.

its kinda like this... u know when u go to those parties that are just pure cockfests, full of blokes... whenever the odd girl comes along all the guys are like "OMG " and no matter how mingin she is, she will still pull!... see what im saying?

thats utter bull to be fair ian. The software has absolutely all to do with it. If VdM wasnt happy with the tracks he was making with software then he wouldnt give them to labels or release them himself.

The problem isnt down to the producers, yes its resonably easy to put together a track now but the fault is ENTIRELY down to record labels signing all this music. If they were more selective about the tracks they are signing then there wouldnt be half the problem there is now.

my point mate is that there's several people who use the software, and are very good at it, bringing the best sounds out, take Haak for instance, but as Nik says, some of it is too easy, just load a patch, add an effect & send to a label wanting to make a name.
