To be fair I think the key word here is amateur. It has become more accessable so it is easier to "have a go".
You don't go to your mate who plays a guitar "thats well your ruining indie" do you? |

Yeah, but those dabblings are hardly around for everyone to hear. |

I dunno the indie types have places like TA... and ty labels... and websites...
It is like the twilight zone.... it's the same... but different

And surprise no negative responces even though the lad is a "one man band" recording onto the high tech medium of "8-Track" (I've never seen one... no really).
Maybe it's a more general internet thing, now that the internet allows people to share their crap it apears that music is more crap than before.
But I don't think it is just a trance thing. |

I don't know really - just take a look at any thread on the Producer Promotion forum. There isn't a single negative feedback anywhere no matter how awful the track is. |

| software gives everyone a chance to make music. unfortunately not everyone has the talent, imagination, music knowledge or creativity to make music well. i agree that it's the labels faults because there is nothing wrong with people having the means to make music...that's actually a great thing, the problem is that labels are picking up and signing tracks and artists that really aren't any good. and why do the labels sign these songs? because people are buying them. people have such a lowered standard of music today that it encourages labels to sign crap and that encourages amateurs to send in their crap demos. honestly, if i produced some of the songs that get released these days i'd be so embarrassed to have my name attached to it. |

thats utter bull to be fair ian. The software has absolutely all to do with it. If VdM wasnt happy with the tracks he was making with software then he wouldnt give them to labels or release them himself.
The problem isnt down to the producers, yes its resonably easy to put together a track now but the fault is ENTIRELY down to record labels signing all this music. If they were more selective about the tracks they are signing then there wouldnt be half the problem there is now. |
I second that. |

| The quality music is still there. It's just that it's been buried under tons of sub-par productions. It certainly hasn't ruined the scene in any way, but it's certainly made it more difficult to find quality. I guess this does have the positive effect of seperating the good DJs who really do have an ear for talent from the amateurs. |

everyone calls themselves a 'trance producer'
that's why airbase stopped making trance and moved on to house
