slavery may have ended in 1865 but racism continues. the civil rights and voting rights acts were passed in the '60s because blacks were still indirectly being barred from elections and subjected to routine civil violations - and that's only 40 years ago. up until the '70s, blacks would be denied outright for loans and mortgages that everyone else was easily approved for, not to mention that redlining and blockbusting (look up what these terms mean) rendered black houses of less value just because of who was in them.
people who are against affirmative action confuse equality of opportunity with equality of access -- access to loads of things that you and i take for granted. the opportunity may be there but without the mechanisms to equally access it, it means nothing. - if you don't understand this point, think harder or read a good history book.
listen to chris rock's standup routine regarding this: he speaks of these distinctions and tells a largely white audience that they wouldn't want to switch places with him, and he's rich. |

Short summary of my Harlem Renaissance class, and what it taught me about black history. AKA: Proof that it's not ALL oppresion from other races.
By the 1910s, African Americans in the North East corridor (Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, etc.) had made an amazing comeback. There was a strong African American urban economy and an even stronger culture emerging. Then in early days of the great depression, the leaders of the African American community in NYC decided two things, these decisions would ultimatly lead to the entrapment of the community into ghettos and lower-class living standards.
The decisions were such:
1.) That the ultimate goal of the African American community in teh USA shoudl be the complete immigration of all black peoples back to Africa. This is commonly thought to be a racist idea concocted by the elite whites of the time, but inface was created and popularized by high-profile black politicians and cultural leaders.
What is not very well known is what these leaders had in mind once they reached Africa.
The goal was to get all black people, the whole world round, to go back to Africa and then form a continent wide empire where no non-africans would be welcome. (Note how this bears quite a resemblance to teh nazis' ideology, this is proly why it is not popularized and never bore fruit.)
2.) In order to strengthen the inner bonds of the African American communities in the US, all African Americans were told to focus on Art, Music, and Sports. NOT on academia or buisness. Unfortunetally this notion stuck, and is still evident today. This push away from academia and buisness (which may have been an understandable way to combat unemployment during the great depresssion) lead the african american community to move into tighter living environments, aka ghettos, and demolished the posibility of developing a strong middle class african american society. |

well after 20min of searching i still can't find the Act that was passed around the 1930's that kept black communities in certain districts of a city. the segregation of the housing isn't what caused the blacks never to leave oppression. that's not my point, infact, i'm not arguing the blacks didn't have it bad because they did. It's disgusting to think what white men did to them.
my point is about today, making and passing laws based on the future not on the corrupt past of our country. I don't think denying it will ever suffice but i am saying turn your backs on the ENTIRE situation because a free market society does not support these kind of laws. |

blacks i have no problem with.
its the uneducated ******s i have problems with.
we see it all the time here.
their foul streets, language, looks, and offspring contaminate this world even after they grossly misuse what help the government provides.

| you know you could probably get a similar free ride if you go to school at one of the primarily black institutions in the south like alabama hahaha...i saw on 60 minutes once that they were basically doing the opposite in those universities because there aren't any white kids :p |
