i flipped onto BET last night actually because it said In Living Color was on, but instead they had this panel of important black people talking about the modern day civil rights movement and everything...it was pretty funny...
one guy would say, well they need to focus on education and the poverty level...yeah ok i can agree with that
then this chick started talking about the criminal justice system and about how 1 in 3 black people will spend time in jail in their lifetime. just made me think wow . and then she started trying to talk about how we need to reform the system into something that works for the black community...racial profiling bla bla...and that sort of thing...and i realized...
was she saying that our nations prisons are primarily black because of racial profiling? that's a load of . i mean use the poverty excuse of something, but honestly... maybe they should promote different values in the black community and not the hip-hop lifestyle... they talked about that as well later on in the show, but i just thought that was such a terrible excuse for why blacks commit crimes...made me a little mad |

yeah thats a quote from American History X too thats actually quite accurate. But again, i'm not putting down blacks... they want equality so it comes to these measures |

I think this thread should be put in the political forum :)
Seriously though, its amazing how ignorant some of you are saying stuff like, "4th generation African Americans should be educated blah blah blah" . . . . ."if only they educated themselves. . ."
In a perfect world, that would work, but we dont live in a perfect world. There are lots of school districts that dont receive the same attention and generous budgets as others so there are many many many kids out there going to horrendous schools. So by the time they graduate, theyre applying to schools against kids that have gone to better schools, and have had access to other school funded programs.
Yes, many minorities reside in these unfortunate areas so that is where affirmative action comes from.
But has anyone thought about all the caucasians that live in these poor conditions and are uneducated? What is their excuse? How do they get help to attend college? |
