smokers are jokers.
in all seriousness, I'm for it. it's an absolutely filthy habit which both my parents used to do, my dad stopped b4 i was born but mum kept on until she had a cancer scare, that her so she stopped. I'm not sure how it's going to be policed, esp at nighttimes when people are out & about, are they going to be forced to put it out etc ? but it's a step in the right direction. I do agree with alcohol being restricted more, there is a need, but I don't see how it'd be done. |

They have had this in Ireland for a while, and it works very well.
Enforcement is not a problem at all.
I think this is great news, Now we can spend even more money on getting drunk and high instead :) |

He's right.. it's had a really positive outcome over here. Smokers just take it as a given that they have to go outside to have their fag. Lots of people actually have a good laugh when they head out to the smoker's area, i even know people who join smokers just to keep them company as they have a great laugh waffling to whoever might be out there at the time.
I've never seen anyone spark a smoke up in a club or pub to this day.
I'm just surprised they're waiting till the summer of 2007.. summer of 2006 would have worked better.. Then again they have to give the premises time to get their patio's build and they'll have to buy some form of heating as well.. It gets quite comfortable out there actually now that i think about it :)

Lol everyone goes berserk everytime its mentioned :D
When it was brought in in Ireland, everyone went mad. Then everyone just got used to it. Smokers now go outside and light up without even thinking about it.
Its much much MUCH better now. You dont stink after a night out.
The more countries that do this the better. |

true, italy have enforced it as well now for a while.
And i'm sure there are other countries in europe either thinking of it or that have it in place all ready..

and how many hospitals are full on a friday and saturday night down to drink related incidents at severe time and cost to the NHS?
How many thousands are in a completly battered state due to alcohol every single weekend? |
True, but some savlon and bandages are alot less financial strain on the NHS than a ton of Tarceva for smoking-related cancer.
I went into Cafe Nero today and was amazed that they allow smoking. Really ruined the coffee for me.
I don't see why people should have to inhale 2nd hand smoke. It's been scientifically proven to be damaging as it is. |

This post is based on small amounts of googling, some guesswork and almost no medical background
It takes a lot of alcohol to damage your liver. It's a very resiliant organ and can regenerate. I'd imagine a bigger side effect of binge drinking in the future will be diabetes. Think how much suger is in an alchopop it's obcene, same with coke and redbull. I'm pretty sure lager has sugar in as well to help it ferment, especially carling that is sweet
For example redbull has 12 grams of sugar per 100mls thats 30grams per can. I don't know about you but if i'm drinking vodka rebulls i can get through more than 10 in a night so thats over 300grams of sugar!!
EDIT\\ i doubt a gram of caffine is good for you either :p |
