How much would you pay for a PS3 (pg. 2)

I'd trade my klondike bar for a ps3

The reality of it is, we don't know the release date though we can speculate that it'll either be by Q4 (in Japan) of this year or sometime next year.

Do note that it costs Sony around $900 per unit (to create) and that actual plans are to sell it for much, much less. In the video game industry, profit from a console is only made after a few years on the market. Significant losses occur (such as was with the Dreamcast and the X-Box) and, if done correctly, are made up for with good software sales to accompany the console sales. Look at a (approx.) $500 price tag around the release window.

Would you be surprised if I told you that, if we take into account the inflation over the years, the modern day price of a brand new Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), had it been released nowadays, would be between $300 and $350?

It's crazy how far technology has come.

It was only like, 20 years ago too. Mario was made out of like, 10 pixels, lol. Maybe less!

Actually, only the Saturn, Dreamcast, and X-Box consoles (and probably the 360) were sold at a loss, and it didn't exactly turn out too well for Sega!

By the way, the $900 pricepoint is ridiculous and unrealistic for many reasons--but I'm record shopping and my attention is captured at the moment. Beyond the obvious manufacturing overestimates that the article makes, Sony would get SLAUGHTERED by Microsoft and Nintendo when their console costs more than twice and thrice the respective competition.

Sega was screwed way before the Dreamcast came out. And I think the 360 is being sold at a $150 loss.

I'm pretty sure by the time it comes out, GTA's 15 minutes of fame will be long gone. :p

Are you kidding? GTA3 revolutionized what a game could be in so many ways. GTAIII was released in 2003! Like 2 and a half years ago. Each game has been amazing (I personally thought Vice City was a little weak) But com one.. 15 minutes? No way.

Edit: One and Two were also amazing in their own right. Never before seen such violent games played from a birds eye view. :p
