the music still has meaning

c'mon, try for me :(

The stuff that really has meaning is fewer and far between these days. All i've been seeing recently is pop-cheese trash from Above & Beyond and Armin, and amateur producers rehashing the same old sounds over and over. The only five that really stand out for me as releasing some really great stuff are Micro de Govia (Vital Spark is awesome, one of my number one trance producers still), Airwave (His new stuff is decent, not quite as good as his old stuff), Kalafut & Fygle (Quite an innovative sound I think, still uses the breakdowns of course but they make them sound interesting and new, and are a fusion of epic and progressive, slower BPM epic trance with proggy elements, thick basslines, good melodies, quality production in my view), and Ljungqvist is a very good producer who also makes stuff similar to Kalafut & Fygle (call it McProg all you want, but these guys are talented, they aren't just making all the same old sounds, still use some breakdowns, but gotta give them some credit for making some different stuff as well), and Hydroid impresses me as well, "Sonate" is quite nice, I like it even more than "Atlantis".

But other than that not much...but to me trance is music that is an escape from reality, and I think these guys do it very well. I like stuff that takes you to some far off place for a little while, stuff you can listen to and dance to, stuff that is just enjoyable to listen to, stuff that is emotional, melodic, and isn't just a pounding beat. Puts some warmth in the synth. I just don't like the over done, over used stupid breakdowns with the same old sounds...the same old trance riffs, the really anthemic..theatrical stuff. I like stuff that is I guess a bit "deeper" and doesn't over do it, but still has melody and some of the familiar traits that I have liked in my trance music over the years, but still sounds different, doesn't just sound like everything else (like those god damn trance riffs egh...). These guys I listed I feel have pretty unique sounds to themselves, yeah they have a similar formula at points but like I said, they do sound "new" and "different" in my view, from the stuff I listened to say 6 years ago..

I guess I can also add Mark Otten to the list, although I really only like Crossroads (Rio Addicts), Mushroom Therapy, and Tranqulity. I didn't like "So Serene" as much, nor some of his other stuff...

I could go on and on about what trance means to me, but no one wants to hear it, because quite frankly I'm sick of going over and over about my pretensiousness with music and how it makes me feel and it's "spiritual" qualities (not in like a new agey type of way, just a transcendent, poetic, conceptual..surrealistic...philosophical I guess...like some classical and romantic music was thought of as) but I wont really go into much detail because people have heard it enough on here in other threads...and i've begun getting into more progressive stuff anyways, but still dig the stuff with melodies and "tranciness" or "spaciness", I guess I'm not that into funky or hard, or really relentless stuff unless of course I was in a club, but I take my points often from a listeners point of view, not a clubber. But that may change in the future when I get my ass to clubs....
