Why has Toronto become so ghetto? (pg. 9)

Compare what is happening with what happened to NY quite a few years ago (gangs, violent crimes, etc.) you'll see how similiar the two are. |

Toronto Homicide Rate for 2004: 1.8
...yep...very close.
Winnipeg is at 4.9 though; so thats fairly close to New York |

I doubt that New Yorks rate is actually that LOW! I know Washington and Baltimore lead the way with 40, while toronto's is below 2!
Guys we are worrying way too much, most of these crimes are gang related and do not affect us (maybe a couple lol), and the SLIGHT increase in murders has more to do with competing gangs than anything else. Like someone else said, overall crime has decreased SIGNIFICANTLY since the 1980's, and I have tons of other info on this if anyone is interested. The "moral panic" caused by recent shootings is a result of the various media outlets deciding to set 'gun violence' as one of the main themes that will be used in newspapers and tv news programs in the coming years. |

Of course it is, Toronto's rate is much lower than than any cities west of here (with the possible exception of Vancouver). I think Edmonton had the highest if i'm not mistaken. |

Any reason for that? If I had a guess, I would of thought Toronto's homicide rate was highest in Canada.. |

Nope, Toronto is one of the lowest.
I'm guessing it might have a lot to do with the lack of oppurtunity there. A person from Winnipeg would know best though. |

How so?I work there and Iam nice to everyone who comes there,and as far as I know most of the staff is nice there,but there is always one or two that might be rude at times. |

It's good the staff are reading this, maybe they will take it into consideration the next time they are rude to a customer.
I had to stand outside in the cold (no line might I add) because the bouncer decided to ignore me and talk to his friends....plus one or two other various rude encounters with staff that night.
Sorry but I've been working in the nightlife scene for awhile now and behavior like that isn't really acceptable in a field that aims to please it's customers. |

Winnipeg has a population of less then 700,000...I don't have time to compile stats to prove my very simple point; so i'll just leave in hopes that you understand :
Rates of homicides are in direct proportion with the population.
Winnipeg>Toronto>NYC |
