I'm not really sure what you mean by epic.

classic trance with massive build ups, like this track or tiesto's lethal industry. another example would be wellenrausch's "on the run"
Rainborn
Defining 'epic' would be hard I think.
To me it's not just the music but the pictures I get in my head when I listen to something, too.

there are several aspects which plays a cruical role in why epic trance today seem to have lost its spirit.
one of the most important is exactly as that other guy said. the labels today are very eager to sign as many new talents as posible. this resulting in an inflation in releases which propably never should have left the studio. I personally know producers which got signed with poor productions but the labels seemed to release anything they could find.
another reason is that alot of the young producers today looks back on the golden epic years "98-00" and tries to copy their favourite producer sounds from those years. but with a much worse result. of course influences are never bad but in the long line when every producer tries to copy the same formula over and over again it's tearing on the quality of music.
i can't count the number of really good uplifting tunes i heard last year on my fingers. most of the time you hear one tune and the next minute you don't even remember how it sounded. the soul it used to have has vanished. propably why i today listen mostly to progressive trance ala Vibrasphere, Ticon, Antix etc. This progscene have made a big comeback and the number of quality releases is amazingly high. but i fear that it might get overflooded as well. but so far the labels doesn't seem to sign many new talents and instead concentrate on the old guys which is propably why the quality is kept at a higher level.

OK, I got it the first time. However, this track doesn't really have a massive build up or any epicness of any kind to it.

i'm trying to add valid commentary to this discussion, why you always criticize everything, that really sucks on this board.

here is a track with a massive build up

MAGENTA: "TWISTED SOUL"

quality uplifting (epic) trance

Because I disagreed with you? Why do you people think that every time someone doesn't share your views it means it's a personal attack of some kind?

yeah that one is nice. good production by Hemstock & Jennings. it was pretty underrated. only heard PvD play it. though its not new. its like 2-3 years old.

It's not an intent to criticize. It's being honest. Most trance today is completely soulless and devoid of character. If anything, one of the virtues of TA is the honesty and experience of the members.

Twisted Soul is actually one of a very few tracks that stand out for me from the past two or three years.
