milwaukee harley-davidson for teh lose

i work full time as a graphic designer, designing websites for power sports dealers all across the US. many of our clients are Harley dealers and currently i'm working on the site for Milwaukee Harley-Davidson (a pretty big deal since Milwaukee is the home of H-D)... now maybe i'm over-reacting but here's what they want on their site:
- the sound of a beer bottle opening every time a link is clicked
- a photo of a guy on a motorcycle burnin' rubber with a chick pouring beer into his mouth (wtf?!)
now i understand beer and H-D motorcycles are both pretty important to the city of Milwaukee, but i just find it sickening that they're trying to promote both at the same time, like "HEY! come to Milwaukee, get drunk, and ride a Harley!"... you would think that with as many motorcycle accidents and drunk drivers that are in Milwaukee, they'd be a little more sensitive about stuff like that.
it's seriously almost to the point that i feel like telling my boss i'm uncomfortable designing the site, just because i don't want to have any part in putting forth the image that drinking and driving is okay. either that or i feel like putting a big disclaimer in the graphics about drinking responsibly, but that might be too controversial and i don't want to get in trouble.
am i just being a big baby? am i crazy? |

| Eh... if the moneys good I wouldnt care about the morals/personal feelings about what the site is and whether its 'responsible'. Think of the cash at the end instead :D |

| honestly i don't think it's a reflection on milwaukee...i think it's a reflection on the type of people that are the target market for harley davidson. |

| why would it make you hate milwaukee? in this case you should hate harley, not milwaukee. besides, milwaukee is known for beer and for those into harley's, its known for harley's aswell. they're just promoting they're love and dedication to the city that supported them throughout the companies life. plus if you want a disclaimer or something, bring that up with the people who are hiring you to do it for harley and mention how it could be interpreted the wrong way. |

yeah i agree. and when you suggest the idea say it in a way that makes it sound like it could be a liability to them if they don't put a disclaimer on there. try to make it sound like they need to add a disclaimer with such an add to avoid any potential lawsuits. that way it sounds like you're saving their ass hehe... |

yea I am sure this is not the defining site that represents the majority of milliwalkay. But regardless, I do see your point and you should bring it up with your supervisor. Although people have a tendancy to just do what their supervisor or authority figure says to do regardless of how they feel.....remember the holacaust, yea, this is the same principles ;)

you're right... i should have worded it differently because i don't hate Milwaukee, i just hate that that's how Milwaukee gets represented, and that there are so many people in this city who wouldn't think it's inappropriate at all to show a guy on a motorcycle and drinking at the same time.
so my supervisor and my boss are out today... guess i'll just around til next week and then bring it up to them. |

yeah but people also seem to think that its still like happy days around here. no one realizes how many positive changes this city is going through and i agree that it does make it sound like mlwaukee would be misrepresented... |
