So I got pulled over last night....

I was on my way home last night at about 10 o'clock and was sitting at the lights on Broadview and Danforth. Not a drop to drink, wasn't speeding, totally minding my own business.
Some cop pulls up beside me and motions me to pull over after the light turns green. I rolled down my window and asked if something was wrong and he says "Umm, yeah... your front light is out." Give me a ing break.
So he pulls me over, tells me my front passenger side light is out. "Oops, I'll have to get that fixed," I tell him. After showing him my license and registration he begins drilling me with questions like, is this my current address, when did I move here, etc. I told him that I moved a couple of months ago and respectfully asked him if there was a reason why he was asking me.
"Of coarse there is," he says in an arrogant tone. "You need to get your license changed when you move." (which I didn't know was really necessary.
He goes back to his car, takes 20 minutes, another cop car pulled over and he shot the with them for a bit, saw him staring out the window as well. He comes back and hands me 2 tickets totalling $220... one for my light and one for my license. He says I can take them to court and if I have a receipt for a new light and a new licence they'll get thrown out. I looked at the guy and laughed in his face because of how pathetic he is. Then said, "Are we done here?" and took off.
Lesson learned people. Make sure you have every I dotted and t crossed because in spite of all the crime here, cops in this city have nothing better to do with their time than pull people over for a burnt out headlight. |

some cops are just pricks....DH could have very easily have said "i just moved there" and the guy couldnt have done . he just used it as an excuse to dish out another ticket.
dont get me wrong...some of them are good guys but some are just pricks. a few years ago, i got 3 BS tickets totally about 290 bucks, the cop hands them to me and says "dont worry about it...bring it to court and ill get them dropped for you"
well if thats the case, dont give me the stupid tickets.
needless to say...i went to court and the judge was in a ty mood...didnt even let the cop drop them. i ended up paying for one of the 110 dollar tickets. :( |

Then I must be living under a rock because the last 3 cops that pulled me over and I told that my license wasn't my current address said nothing about it.
Furthermore do you check to see that your lights are fully functioning every time you start your car? I'd suggest you do, because if one of them burns out the night before and you don't notice than it's worth $110 when John Wayne pulls you over and heaven forbid him letting you off with a warning from something so stupid.

So because you don't get a ticket for it means you have a free pass from that law for life? |

^^^lol yea well we are "supposed" to take a walk around the car before moving it from its parked state EVERYTIME (yea stupid defence driving inclass insists on it)
do i check my car all over before moving it? no.
could i get ed?yep
ty but it happens. all depends on the cops mood.
I gave a cop the finger once for tailgating me (no i didnt know it was a cop). did he pull me over? no....its still a mystery how that didnt happen..lol |

if the old address is your parents place in waterloo then just tell them that you still get all of your mail sent there since you check in every week or something like that. I leave my car registered in Jersey for a bunch of reasons and just tell them that its where I live so I don't have to change it. You should probably change it now anyway since this has come up, but that would be my main defense.
that sucks though.
btw: one of the best ways I've found to check my lights is to look for both reflections against my garage door before I pull out or against a car infront of me at traffic lights. |
